~SLAYING THE COMPUTER DRAGON...And Learning Paint Shop ProX~

~IMAGE ONE~
Original Scanned Valentine

Not long after my Mr. AGPMan and I purchased our La Chaumière de Briarwood in 1992 he informed me it was time for us to purchase a home computer as well. I distinctly remember asking him "WHY do we need a such a thing?" and "What do home computers do?"

His reply to me was this: "Well, you can use it to pay bills, send mail, play games, and stuff like that!"

Background Color Changed

My response to him was this: "How stupid is that! I don't think we need one!!!"

If it wasn't for my son, Brandon (the Computer Programmer Brainiac), and my Computer Analyst hubbs, my Mr. AGPMan himself, I probably wouldn't even know how to turn a computer on.

I'm not kidding.

I'm a slow learner! I am. Things that might take someone an afternoon to learn seem to take me days and days to grasp. Brandon says it's because I didn't grow up with computers. I think that is just a nice way for him to say he thinks I'm old.

Still, one of my goals for 2010 was to commit to learning Paint Shop ProX! By golly I'm going to learn it if it KILLS ME!

Sooo...at the risk of being a total braggart, I have to show you what I did yesterday. I took the original vintage Valentine you see at the top and transformed it into the one at the bottom. :) Pretty good huh?

It only took me 10 hours to do!

EEEK!

Blessings to you as you learn new things in a timely fashion...

  1. I think you did a lovely job!

My mother refused to get a computer, so my sister and I bought her one for Christmas a few years ago. She had to take an adult ed class at a local college to learn how to use it.

Now I hear from her ten times a day. I know more about her life than when I lived with her!

  3. You learn a lot faster than you think. I was the same way about computers..as I was 67 years old when I first learned to turn one on !
PSPX can be a bit of a challange, but I use both PhotoShop Elements and PSPX for most of my enchancing, etc. now.

GOOD LUCK...so far, so GOOD you are coming along great!!

  9. Dear Sweet Rebecca,
    Good going !!!
I am also still trying to unlock all the mysteries that the commputer & my Print Shop Pro Publisher program holds.
I haven't got a clue how to upload graphics to my posts. I am able to upload photos, but any graphics or scanned items are still a mystery to me.
Wish I had a in house tech expert like yours. My "Vintage Brain" just doesn't work as well as it once did.
At least I can print what I design on the computer, just can't share it yet with my Blog friends.
Don't spend toooo much time on the computer, your sewing & painting studio is calling !!!

    XOXOXO, Carol

  12. I know what you mean! My son and his wife gave us ther old computer in 2002 when they got married and I was scared to death of it. NEVER thought I would ever use it and now I can't live without it! Little by little, I have learned to do a few things on it. Actually, it has opened up a whole new world for me. So glad I took the plunge! Have a wonderful day and I'm so glad you learned too otherwise, we would be missing out on your beautiful blog!

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  14. Everything you do to your blog (since you changed it) helps it fall into place..I have about decided to just leave mine as-is.
I wish someone would or could make some backgrounds for minima stretchy...And someone who can program those two changes into the HTML codes...that's where I lose it...
Have a good day, and find lots of things to do by candlelight. and we can do things like decoupage, things that don't require the things that we take for granted...like electricity..
Loving the way your blog looks...
I might need a three column, but I enjoy having the BIG pictures on mine...anyway,
    be safe and warm...
    hugs,
    glenda

  20. Oh my gooooodness.........Good for YOU! I always want to learn how to muddle through all of those dandy programs........but I'm SCARED! :-) Plus, I hate taking the time.....wow....ten hours! I'm impressed sweet friend!

My first acquaintance with a computer was during my years working at Weyerhauser.....we got the first one in the whole company in our building.....It took up a whole room and we had to share it with every other department. Imagine....so many people have several in their homes now....and I couldn't live without mine. I would hate to have missed meeting all of you wonderful girlies! :-)

Yep, we've been waiting patiently on God to send the perfect fella her way..... I haven't met him yet, but my girl says he's ADORABLE.....and hilariously funny, which is really important to her because she is too! I'll just have to sit back and be patient (not my strong suit).... I just want her to be happy.

    Huggies!
    Spence
