~SIGNS OF EARLY CRAFTING?~

~OH TO BE YOUNG AGAIN~
(Lovely 70's Decor, huh?)

This picture was taken inside my childhood home of me and a boy I was madly in love with had a little crush on back in 1974.  We were going to a Sadie Hawkins Dance and I remember painstakingly creating these fabulous tacky outfits for the girl-ask-boy-occasion!  My Gramma made the red checks shirts for us out of gingham and I borrowed the overalls and straw hats from my best friend's big sister...

Problem was...

Back then I didn't know how to sew and there wasn't much on the market when it came to 'temporary fustible webbing'.  So...I used Elmer's glue to attach the patches onto both the hats and the overalls.  I absolutely THOUGHT that the glue would wash out!

It didn't.

Imagine my horror when I had to return the borrowed items all messed up with hardened glue.  I don't remember HOW I paid for all the ruined stuff...I only know that I did.
(My father and mother saw to it!)

I've had a love-hate relationship with the sticky-stuff ever since!

Hope you are having a great hump-day.  I'm in the studio painting up a storm (it's a glue-free zone!)...

Love to you...

  1. Oh so sweet! At school I found some great tops to put on the bottles of glue for my first graders because without them we'd have lakes of glue on everything! And I loved having my kids cut and glue all kinds of things.♥♫

  4. Heehee!!!!! I am sure I made many silly mistakes like that. I have a love-hate relationship with glue too. But if you add glitter to that glue, it is just a "hate-hate" relationship.

And I am loving the Alison Krauss song this morning. Love love love.
Have a beautiful day Rebecca. I pray God blesses you big today.

  7. hee hee...what a great story! I used to love Sadie Hawkins Day dances. Wonder if young people even know what they are these days? I don't even think they have high school dances like we used to have....sock hops, etc..... :)

  15. Oh what a hoot! Your cute photo brings back some 70's memories. I was so in love with bib overalls for daily wear in high school and sewed a Raggedy Ann appliqué to one pair. Sounds really dorky now. Thanks for the memory!

  16. LOL, isn't it weird how when you need glue to work it doesn't and when you want it to dissolve it hangs in there like something NASA used to repair the shuttle?
Have a happy painting day and I can hardly wait to see what you are working on!
    P.S. Love the picture!

  17. How cute you looked! Aren't we lucky to be alive in a time when there are craft supplies for ANYTHING you want to do? Now there are all types of glue for every project, not to mention all the other stuff they have come up with.
Our swap mail date is fast approaching - I'm just about ready!
