(Lots of Women's Patterns, too!)
You know...sometimes you're just in the right place at the right time! And whenever I am and stumble upon a find SEW SWEET that my head gets dizzy I just know it's because I'm right where I'm suppose to be in my life.
I've always loved vintage sewing patterns and when I find them from the 1940's (and before) I feel drunk with joy! I snagged about fifty to sixty patterns over the weekend for just a few measly little bucks and although some I already have, most I've never seen. I've collected old patterns for years and years but this little grouping is going to be SOLD!

Patterns are simply outrageously priced these days!!! Have you noticed? And what is it with the 50% off sales always running? Why not just put a fair price on the patterns and let them be?
Isn't this a sweet baby layette! No date on this one but the pattern on the inside isn't printed. Just has perforated letters on the pieces! The thought of sewing with a pattern like this makes me SKERD...:)
I remember my Gramma Bertie making me dresses like these...does that make me old?

LINDA AND I - 1962/63
Grams always said she made my skirt shorter than Linda's because I had squatty legs. (Thanks, Grams!) I'll have you know I'm a teensie wheensie bit taller than Linda is today (that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!).
Vintage doll pattern in the lot, too!
How about this swing coat/jacket/robe thingy??? The pattern size says 14...bust is 32". That doesn't make ANY sense to me!
I'm hoping to have time later this week to photograph the lot of these old patterns and get them listed for sale. If not this week then next week....or the next week...or the next week.... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

ReplyDeleteHi Rebecca! When I saw your post today, I had to run to my sewing room to look up the old patterns that my grandmother left to me. As her 3 daughters were cleaning out her house, I'm sure they all said, "Put these in Debbie Lynn's pile, she will use them." Anyway, I have a duplicate of the first little girl's dress pattern you show today! It's a size 5 and Mamaw Lillie probably made it for my Aunt Becky because the pattern has been cut.

Boy do those patterns bring back memories. My mother made all of our clothes while my sister and I were growing up until we became teenagers and we wanted store bought. What I wouldn't give for one of those little dresses now.

ReplyDeleteI love old kid's patterns. I found a couple a while back, and I've used them. Wish they would remake some of those old ones. They are so much cuter than some of the ones offered today.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the price of patterns. Never would I pay full price for the standard kind. I don't like paying full price for the specialty patterns, but sometimes I just need them. I do try to use them over and over. My DD has also found some of those in yard sales.

I'm in love with the HOUSECOATS! That is what I know them to be. I have always wanted to find a vintage one that I could love until it fell off but i've not had any luck yet. Maybe one day in pink or red it will be on the rack when I go to the mission store. Maybe one day.
ReplyDeleteI was at Joann's today looking at dress patterns and my gosh, $15.00. Even with the 1/2 off it's still $8 plus. FOR PAPER!! Good grief charlie brown. Cheaper to by a dress you like, rip i apart carefully and have a permanent pattern if you ask me. :)

Hello Rebecca, Yes you can sell the sewing patterns on Etsy because they are vintage. I am pretty sure they would be snapped up by all of the sewing ladies there. What a wonderful find for you and the future owners of these lovely designs.

ReplyDeleteWhat a find. I love old patterns, too, and actually have some from my childhood! I have a couple that have the perforated lettering with no print, too. Can you imagine trying to sew with those patterns? Did you notice the difference in the texture of the paper used for patterns though?

Those patterns are precious! I am old enough to actually have worn some of them. Like someone said...mom use to make all of our clothes. Once was embarrased because someone reconised (can't spell worth spit today!) the dress. Being a shy kid it sure didn't help my confidence any! I think the patterns now are so badly priced. Funny how the stores can run deals like 99 cents on patterns that usually sell for $15.00+. Can we say...big mark-up. What would the percentage be that the store gets on the full price of each pattern they sell??? I LOVED the picture of you and your sister! So cute and precious!

ReplyDeleteOh! Those patterns are true treasures! My Momma made me dresses with a full skirt, frills, lace and flouncy sleeves. I remember one in particular. It was a "grown-up girl's" because she used a fabric that had silver-gray splashes, red splashes and black and gray roses. Oh my I loved that dress!!
I do not have any grangirlies yet, but I am looking forward to the days when I do so I can sew some luscious frilly dresses! I would be interested in purchasing a pattern or two from you!

ReplyDeleteI also LOVE vintage patterns, have quite a few myself! You can list them on etsy, under "Vintage" or "Supplies" and I don't see why you can't list them under "Handmade" surely the garment is handmade when finished.

Oh Rebecca I also had a frilly, fluffy dress like the one you and your sister are wearing. This post brings back such memories. My Mom made all my dresses and I loved them, buying the material and the ribbon and buttons .... ah such good times
