~ROMANTIC COTTAGE WHITE LACE PILLOWS FOR $5~

Can there be anything more wonderful than a pair of fresh 18" x 18" romantic white pillows made for just a few dollars?  Say five little bucks or so?

I think not!

'Tis true!  'Tis true!
A couple of weeks ago while shopping at my favorite thrift shoppe I found an amazing drapery panel by Pottery Barn for $1.98.  I loved the color because it was soft white, not white-white and not too yellowy!  Unfortunately there was only ONE, but that's OK!  Don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth or anything
(what does THAT mean anyway???)
even though I was hoping I'd find TWO!
Now...if you're a pillow maker like I am then you KNOW that feather and fiberfill forms are big bucks these days.  I remember when I use to buy a 10lb box of Polyfil at SAM'S for $9.99.  Gone are those days!  Anyway...I cut up the single 84" PB panel and was able to get two ruffled pillows out of the piece with enough left over to make a smaller accent pillow!

So...what's a girl to do when she wants to save money and still have super cute stuff?

Well...she searches through all the donated pillows at the second hand store to find the ones with feather inserts and then she hauls them home.  Not everything donated is trashy or yucky, you know?  People redecorate all the time and sometimes you can really find some fabulous deals!
Feather inserts are easy to wash and if you look carefully you can find many that are almost new!  Even though I don't use them in my retail offerings I love using feather forms in my own home.

The inserts used for these pillows were also originally from Pottery Barn...you can always tell because the maker's tags are clearly attached!
Clearance bin price was $1 each!

If you're keeping track I'm at about $4.  The last dollar was spent on an oval shaped vintage crochet lace doily at an estate sale.  I snipped out the center (it had a small hole anyway) and then split it in half lengthwise.  Stretched out just a wee little bit there was enough lace to go from side to side before being stitched up
underneath the petite ruffle.
I pulled my PUMPKIN DAYS decor out last night and later this weekend I'll be working on dressing our home for Fall.  It's always so exciting!  While I was taking out the boxes from underneath our stairs I found my NOEL Christmas Pillow.  Just couldn't resist fluffing it up and placing it on the couch for a quick photo-op before tucking it back away! :)
(Maybe I'll just turn it backwards and leave it out!)

:) :) :)

 Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...I think I'm loving it!

  1. Good job! Those pillows look fantastic..especially for a cost of $5. I always buy ugly pillows for the pillow forms too. Pillow forms are crazy expensive. In this economy we do what we have to do!

  2. I love your cushions. What a bargain.By the way, re 'looking a gift horse in the mouth'refers to the fact that you can tell the age of an horse by looking at its teeth, so if you're given something; just be pleased with what you got, and don't question its worth. lol

  4. Love these pillows, Rebecca! I especially love the bit of lace you added under those pretty little ruffles. Yes, I know ~ I try and get pillow forms on sale or when I have a coupon. Even if I get a good deal on the fabric, the pillow form can put it over the top.
