A PLACE IN THE MAKING ~Where Bloggers Create~ A GATHERING PLACE

Welcome! Are you ready for a little peek into my very private world? Never in my wildest dreams would I have believed I would one day show anyone other than my closest friends just where I CREATE....

Here goes...

COME IN!

This is where I spend most of my day! Is it what you expected? Probably not! It's tiny! My studio is just one little room in my home and I love it. Thankfully I'm able to have a separate office in another room in my home...that is where you'll find my computer...

It is in this humble dwelling that I CREATE for both you and for me! Because I am a painter/artist and sewer of fine things, I have to work very smart and keep very organized or things can quickly fall apart. Trust me when I tell you it isn't always this PRESENTABLE :). At Christmas time it can get to be pretty messy!!!!

This neat Child's Wardrobe was purchased at Home Goods in Dallas. It was marked down to $100 (not kidding) and my girl and I SOMEHOW got it in my SUV and hauled it back to Oklahoma WITHOUT the aid of Mr. AGPMan! I gave the maple finish a few coats of cottage white paint complemented with hand painted pink roses...one of my favorite finds...and it's NEW!

One half of this charming Armoire holds lace, ribbon etc. Extra things that I don't need at my finger tips! The other half holds something else...hmmmmm....

I've collected ribbon for years and years. Because I once I owned a brick and mortar shoppe I have tons of it. I keep at hand ONLY the ones I use the most. The other rolls are kept in bins inside my two handy closets...

My favorite vintage millinery flowers are kept in jars. Lots more are hidden away on shelves...again behind the closet doors. I can't work in disorder and chaos and for the most part I only choose to keep out what I use the most...

Remember the slanted graphic arts desk I found a couple months ago? I moved it into my very special room and it is now what I use to paint on. Large pieces like furniture I paint downstairs in my hubby's workshop (or our garage!)...

I think I have every color of paint ever made. I think I toss out more than I use these days. For years I did Trompe L'oeil Painting (means Trick of the Eye). Now I just love to paint soft, pretty shabby chic finds...and of course, PINK ROSES!

This caddy is always by my side. I constantly move things around and even load it up if I decide to paint outside (which I LOVE to do!)...

It is at this sweet vintage table that I sit and do what I call "fine-work". That would be the making of and assembling sachets, pillows, filling, gluing, hand stitching, embellishing, etc. It is also where I write out thank-you notes and wrap up your purchases... Like I said...my space is tiny so each little area must be used for more than one thing! I actually love it...

It is also on this table that I keep the very sweetest of my lacy trims, old buttons, rare French stuff, etc. I love to look at the aging millinery finds and love to use them in many of my creations...

This little multi-drawer cabinet (or chest) was found in Tennessee about 12 years ago. My big sister and I went to a Spiegel Auction (yep...that Spiegel) and I bought it along with a table. It's a vintage reproduction and I love it!

My favorite things to hunt down! Vintage millinery flowers...especially the pink ones! I have bags and bags of them...

This is where I sew! This piece was once my son's computer desk. It was once a dark coppery brown colored, Mission-Style desk (not my fav!)... but it was sturdy and strong. So...I painted it and added a skirt to it. Fully functional and simply wonderful now. Lift up the skirt and there is tons of storage! Found the fabric in California (of course!).

Work smart! Work clean! Get lots done! That's my motto!

This is about 1/3 of my fabric. I keep telling my guy I'm going to par it down...NOT!

My fabulous Janome! I have four machines...this one only does straight stitches and is a home-based commercial machine. I also have this...

A fabulous Serger from White. I forgot to snap a picture of the other two...one is a 2die4 European machine that does the most amazing buttonholes and the other one is a Ruffler. I can't live without it! After years of fighting with PATHETIC Ruffler attachments that would never, ever work, I decided to spring for a machine that did only that one thing! HEAVEN!

The other half of the Wardrobe I showed you above holds two TV's! "Why two?" you ask! Because one plays VHS Tapes and the other plays DVD's. When our Miss K visits she can't get enough of her daddy's aging VHS movies. I refuse to replace them until I absolutely have to! I also LOVE to watch CREATE TV... Sometimes...more often than not, I just listen to music.

My closets are full to the brim with more stuff than I can even say. Again...I'm very organized and I like everything in it's place. Someday (?) I'll open up the doors completely so you can see all the stuff I hide away! :) I sometimes wonder IF I will ever use it all. Probably not.

Can you tell I just LOVE PINK!?

OK Peeps! That's just about it! Sure hope you aren't disappointed! Thank you sooo much for visiting. I hope you enjoyed yourself and will visit me again very soon! Whether your space is as big as a ballroom or just a tiny nook in your kitchen, I encourage you to find the passion that lives deep within you and carve out a place to call your very own. I promise you, it will change your life.

Thank you, Baber...for everything. You are my hero!

Thank you, Mom (and Grandpa M) for instilling within me a love to create.

Thank you, Adrienne...for allowing me to repaint your old room without making a fuss (sniff, sniff, sniff). It will ALWAYS hold the sweetest memory of you (I miss you, xo).

Thank you, Brandon...for your hours of instruction...had it not been for you the world outside of Oklahoma would never have seen my work.

Thank you, Bloggie Friends. Especially Karen at My Desert Cottage.

Thank you, God...for blessing my hands and for grace and patience when I fail and for the joy you place in my heart when I succeed. Help me to remember all good things come from You.

Love to you all...

Rebecca

I could not participate. We are taking out walls, forget about making pretty... :( One day it will come together and be done. I have one corner i'm working out of, if you call it working.

Your space is very similar to what I envision for my own. I want it completely girly and a place of my own. I want no mistake to be made when someone visits... no mistaking it for Steve's room... hehe

Sorry to hear you were not feelign well R. I think it's going around in one form or another with many of us. I'm two weeks in a flare but still moving forward. I hope you feel much better quickly.

That video had me in tears of hysterics of laughter. I needed to see that video and it was just what I needed. My sweetie & I got married at city hall with two good friends and a minister. Total cost was $50.00 and 1/2 of that was a tip to the minister. It was about the moment and the marriage for us, not the wedding. We've been very happy over all. He's a keeper!

You gave me so many ideas for my own room. Mine is very funntional but I always felt it could be better. I think our rooms are about the same size. Your room is amazing. Oh and Rebecca, you have me beat hands down on the amount of fabric you own. I keep thinking I can't bring any more fabric into this house, well that is no longer true. I am going out this weekend! I have some catching up to do! ;)
Many, many hugs, Susan
P.S. I hope you are feeling better.

I am completely in love with your creative space! The wardrobe is to die for -- What a wonderfully artistic soul you have! Are you familiar with antique sewing machines, by chance? I've recently received one as a gift from my better half and we are having a difficult time dating the machine. It is a pleasure making your acquaintance at this lovely event!

Enjoy the party!

Rebecca, I'm planning to do a post about "Sares". You are not the first one to ask, I know it's a bit strange! It's actually a nickname my Grandmother gave me when I was a little girl. I'll go into more detail later. I was actually thinking of turning it into a blog party. Do you think there would be any interest in people sharing how they came to chose their blog manes and their blog "alias" if they have one? That could be more work than I want to do, LOL!

Oh My Rebecca, your studio is amazing!! You said I am inspiring but geez, mine is not the heaven that yours is. All the fabrics you have, wow and all the trims. You have a ruffler machine? I didn't even know there was such things. Like you, I have bought attachments and they irritate me more then anything. They are a waste of my money. I will have to go look for ruffler machines and learn more about them. I have learned how to sew growing up but didn't actually start sewing until about 7 years ago.
I would keep on typing... I am a fan and I'll be back. Glad to have discovered you.

I'm sitting here amazed, dear, precious friend! Wow! I love your space!

It is so organized and beautiful, and your sweet, gentle, kind spirit is written all over it!

Thank you for sharing it with us.

You have now inspired me to create a little area. I do have a space problem in my little cottage, but with leading from the Holy Spirit I will find it. I did not realize it would so change my life! Thank you for sharing that fact with us!

And, dear Rebecca, thank you for sharing my heart and for praying for my dh. Thank you for rejoicing with me that Jeff does not have cancer.

God is so good! No words can express my thankful heart today. All I can say is "Father, you are so faithful, and your mercy endures forever. Nothing compares to you, Oh, Lord, my God!"

Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend.

Please rest in Christ, and know His love for you! Your love and care reaches so many, and I am so blessed to know you.

In His Love,

Ok Sweet Rebecca..........I will NEVER EVER..........EVVVVVER post my "creative space" here in blogland. I've seen all your beautiful lovelies for such a long time, but who knew they also came from all of that loveliness.....I'm suffering from pink envy......My room's about 1/2 that size and I have to spread out all of the cottage to finish a project........I have all the fabric to do my room over, but it's gonna have to be black and cream. I have an old chair that was my Mum's in there....black tapestry......I can't bear to give it away, so it just has to work. Now I'm gonna feel like in a dungeon. :-(

Dear Rebecca,
First I wanted to take the time to thank you for the prayers for Amy...it meant everything to all of us.
I don't know the date of her surgery but it will be at Presbie, not Mercy. I LOVE MERCY...my son was born there 26 years ago
I will let you know when her surgery is in hopes if for just a cup of tea in the cafteria we can meet.
Now for this gorgeous studio....I am just going to come be your assistant...I work cheap-----free by the Grace of God.
I love....love.....millinery flowers and ribbon and lace...it attracts me like a bee to honey.....
your room with the jars and the beautiful armoire for 100.00 but then you raised the value with your beautiful work....this work room needs to be featured in Romantic Homes and I think I will just write them a letter about you.....you might have already had your beautiful home featured and I missed it....
well bless you sweet lady
beautiful place to create....what that room is to your creating ability was the Angel room to Dottie Rambo's creative ability...I miss that precious lady and her stories

Dear Rebecca,
Your studio looks just like I had pictured it in my mind! So soft and beautiful! It is amazing! I would want to be in there all of the time! I don't sew but now I want to! I bought a sewing machine back in 2001 and only tried to sew a couple of times. I had big plans but work got in the way. I made 3 or 4 throw pillows and that was all. I bought it mostly because I was in the craft dept. at Walmart one day and saw that it was the 100 year anniversary 'Singer' machine. My son was born in 2001 and my granny in 1901...so I just had to have it. I plan on giving it to his little wife one day...he is only 8 years old right now! LOL

I will be thinking about your studio all day and dreaming!

Dear Rebecca: I thought I'd made it into everyone's studio on Friday, but I missed your address. I'm so glad I found your studio. It's got to be one of the loveliest spaces on the tour!
Full of eye candy, inspiration and pretty things. I especially love your child's wardrobe cabinet. You've turned it into a real work of art. I'm just awe-inspired to go back into my little room and start over! Thank you so much for inviting all of us inside. It is truly a joyful place.
Blessings,

What a truly lovely space. I love how you have lovingly organized everything down to the smallest detail. I do not think I could get anything done in that room, I would be to busy admiring all of the beauty surrounding me.

Also, thank you for stopping by blog and leaving the lovely comment. I really appreciate it ;o)

Dearest Rebecca, your studio is lovely....soft and beautiful, just like you. I love it and it is much as I expected it to be. Charming!

I am taking a few days off and was resting in my little sitting room and you came to my heart so strongly. I am in the process of reordering my craftroom....big job, and I wanted YOU to know how much you have inspired me to do this. You gave me the incentive I have been looking for!

Thank you for your kind comment under my Chrismtas Tablescape...that meant a lot to me.

Sending you my love from one tired little girl. :-)

Your studio and all of your yummy inventory and supplies are right up my ally! :0) Thanks so much sharing your creative space..it's really beautiful..You really should be a motivational coach for creative souls that prograstinate. :0) I can see how encouraging you and helpful you could be in organizing their space as well as setting discipline to accomplish great things!

When you have a moment I'd love for you to drop by to see my "studio in progress". I've just recently moved into our home and have been remodeling for almost three months. I'm almost finished with the big stuff. (I think!)

I am a little late to the party, but better late than never. My daughter, the fashionista, will soon be leaving the nest for her new apartment. I will have the luxury of decorating her old room (specifically the closet) as my creative space. I cannot wait and will incorporate many of the wonderful ideas you have shared here. Thank you.

Rebecca, your beautiful space is such an inspiration! I'm in the process of reorganizing and redecorating my own studio and yours is a vision that will remain with me as I work to make mine what I want it to be. Pink roses and vintage things are a new love for me so I'm enjoying the process so much. Thank you for so many beautiful ideas! I'm sure I'm about to become a regular visitor to your blog.
