SWEET FINDS FROM ALABAMA and TENNESSEE
Vintage Victoria Magazines
One of the things I love most about traveling outside of Oklahoma are the wonderful vintage finds I discover along the way. Oklahoma is a wonderful place to thrift and our estate sales are simply fabulous. But...visiting towns beyond our borders can be very exciting as every State and town is vastly different. One never knows just what they may find!
Victoria Magazine September 1989
After we left Tuscumbia, Alabama, my hubbs and I drove north to Tennessee for a visit with my sister. Before she moved away from Oklahoma (and left me!) we junked nearly every Saturday together back when our children were still very, very small. Honestly...between the two of us we hauled home more incredible stuff than I can even tell you. And so began our mutual love for all things gently loved and aging... While still in our twenties we developed a passion for hunting down antique furniture, vintage glass, fine handwork, turn-of-the century clothing and old linens...
Victoria Magazine October 1989
Those days still bring to my mind some of the sweetest (yet financially challenging) days of my life. Being with her again reminded me just how much I've missed having her live down the street~ So long now since she waved goodbye...
Victoria Magazine November 1989
Today our children are all grown-up and except for one they are married and gone. Our homes are now filled and overflowing with earthly treasures purchased during our years of thrift and tag sale shopping.
Victoria Magazine January 1990
So...here we were again, all these years later only now it was just the two of us junking around town alone. Tag Sale Shopping with my big sis always proves to be an over-the-top experience! She lives in a town not far from Nashville and it is full of some of the sweetest little places I've ever seen. While visiting several of their antique malls and downtown shoppes I found a big fat stack of vintage Victoria Magazines and my heart just skipped a beat! I've collected them for years but am still missing several of the early issues. Expecting to find only duplicates of what I already own I was thrilled to find several issues I was fairly certain I didn't have!
Victoria Magazine February 1991
It's been well over a year since I stumbled upon ANY vintage Victoria Magazines... You might remember in early March of 2009 I found a premiere issue of Victoria (that would be Spring/Summer 1987) for only fifty cents (yes...I said CENTS).
PREMIER ISSUE of VICTORIA MAGAZINE
My heart is still a bit faint over that fabulous find because I once watched an eBay Auction for a Premier Issue of Victoria (in great condition) fetch over $150!!
SOME OF MY VICTORIA MAGAZINES
Out of the ten Magazines I brought home only one was a duplicate. And it was a Christmas issue from 1995. Cost for each issue? Three dollars...only five cents more than the cover price! Not too bad!
VINTAGE STEMWARE
At another local antique shoppe we stopped in for a visit I found twelve beautiful pieces of vintage stemware. I fell in love with the pattern even though I have no idea what it is called! I would be crazy-happy if anyone out there could identify either the Maker or Design for me as I'd love to add more pieces to my collection.
ETCHED WATER GLASS
The etched design reminds me of Chantilly but I'm certain that is not what these are called. My sister collects Chantilly so I'm certain they are not the same.
ETCHED WINE GLASS
Cost for each piece you ask? Less than $3.00 each! :)
SCORE!

VINTAGE TRAIN CASES
Now...if you've followed my work for very long (especially since my eBay days) then you know I refashion and re-purpose vintage Train Cases. I'm always on the hunt for them and I was happy to find one in an antique mall while shopping in Alabama. My sister gifted me with the one on the left. She found it at her neighborhood Goodwill for $3.99. WHAT? NO WAY! I've NEVER paid that little for a train case! Especially for one made of wood! SISTER-SCORE! Whoot! Whoot!
LOVELY OLD FIND
I'm pretty picky about the Cases I buy as I've learned through trial and error over the years they were not all created equal. Some are cardboard and some are made of wood. I will never again knowingly make over a Case made of pressed paper.
FEATURED IN ROMANTIC HOMES MAGAZINE
Back in 2006 Romantic Homes Magazine featured several of my hand painted Train Cases (that I call Gathering Cases TM) in the September issue. What an honor!
ALL PAINTED UP
I'm currently working on two new Cases and hope to have them on my A Gathering Place Website sometime late next week!
LOVELY VINTAGE LIQUEUR
Earlier this year I found the sweet Carafe you see on the left. Another amazing little find from Tennessee was the aging Liqueur on the right. Generally they bring many bucks but since I'm a bargain hunter I'm always on the lookout for great deals!
SWEET PRESSED GLASS
I snagged this little sweetie for $12.50. Original price was $58. It had been marked down three times when I found it...couldn't pass it up!
And there you have it! Just a few of the 'tickle me pink' deals I found on my trip out east!
Hope your weekend is wonderful. I've been working on several new pillows and painted pretties for my website and so I hope you'll stop by soon and see what's new!
My little vacation is over and so I'm back to the grind the JOY of creating!
Blessings for a beautiful day!
Love to you...

Rebecca, you brought home some really good deals. The train case on the right is just like my mothers. I want to paint it but haven't got the nerve to do so yet. So it sits at my feet under my painting desk. One day....
I have found several train cases (my mother called hers an overnight bag) and have been very lucky that they have held up so well. I will post a pic on my blog soon.
Have a great week.
Brenda
Love your made over train cases! Such pretty pinks and sweet things to share today!
Dear Sweet Rebecca, You were missed while you were away !
I to have all the old issues of Victoria Magazine. I have a grandaughter that is now 13 named Victoria. A couple of years ago I gifted all of my Old Victoria magazines to her. Of course her Mom, my daughter, put them away for her to have at a later date. Maybe she can sell them on Ebay and help pay for her first year of college books. LOL ;-)
I at one time worked for a clothing designer that was featured in the Issue you have with the white vintage clothing on the cover. I designed and made Romantic clothing from vintage Linens & Lace, mostly for brides and mother of the brides.
Have a glorious weekend!!!
Best wishes to you and Hugs to, Carol
Rebecca, It sounds like you had so much fun! I love your finds and REALLY love your little train cases. I failed to see these on your blog before (probably featured before I started following you).
I am so glad that you got to spend some time with your sister. I never had a sister and can only imagine the closeness you must feel to her. I know my 2 daughters are extremely close and now that one has moved 90 miles away there is some real days of "missing each other". It's not like you can just pop in and out of each other's houses at that distance.
You sound like you are feeling more like your old self! I think your get-away worked some miracles in your life! Hugs- Diana
Blessings Rebecca!
I remember the day when I bought my first issue of Victoria magazine when I lived in Texas. Fell in LUV with it. Was saddened when they stop publishing it and rejoiced when they began again!!!
Neat neat magazine. Have my copies saved.
You, my dear, got some treasures!!!! Pretties to enjoy, decorate, prosper.
God bless and may you have a sweet life!

Great finds Rebecca and I know what you mean about the magazines I have all of mine and when they stopped producing the magazine and when they started again I didn't think it was quite as good so I enjoy my old ones and didn't continue. Glad you had a fun and great trip, Welcome home my friend! Hugs Marilou
I absolutely LOVE both your train cases AND that beautiful stemware!
Hope you are having a great start to the weekend!

Rebecca, you can send pics of your crystal stemware to replacementsltd.com and they will identify the pattern for you. Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your sister, and came back with some real treasures.
Hugs,
Marie
I too collect the older Victoria magazines. Some how the new Victoria Magazines are just not the same. I love the train cases you made over and I am sure the "new to you" one will be just as lovely. The stemware reminds me of my mothers pattern. I will ask her what it is called.

Hello Rebecca... love all your treasures! I can still remember the day back in 1987 when I bought my first Premier Issue of Victoria magazine at our little local grocery store... and have saved each and every one of mine ever since... somehow, I am missing several I loaned out, but I will get those back one day... I recently read that a Premier issue sold for $400.00! Wow! I even have an extra one, but I won't sell them... love your beautiful stemware too...so glad you had a wonderful trip... xoxo Julie Marie
The goblets are an awesome find !! I inherited several similar ( Cambridge Rose Point ) ones and have been adding to them as budget allows. That is a wonderful buy !! Hi Rebecca!
I just love all the pretties you brought home with you. The Victoria Magazines are wonderful and I know you are going to have so much fun reading them.
My sister and I used to live one mile away from each other and now it's 450 miles! We would shop and have so much fun. I'm the one that moved away and how I wish I could still be near her.
I'm sure you will have your shop fille to the brim with all your lovelies.

It is always such a treat to travel along with the Nelsons on their road trips. One never knows where the stops will be, whether viewing beautiful homes, or those antique shops.
I see where you found the pattern on your newly acquired stemware. One person (a real Southern gentleman named Bill) I believe from Nashville is a Master at tablescapes. When in question on china, crystal or place settings he is a GREAT souce of information. His Blog address is Affordable Accoutrements@gmail.com and he features his talents on Susan's Beneath Naps on the Porch.blogspot.com.
Hope all is well in Oklahoma and glad to you have back

My Aunt Rose used to have those magazines and many many more around her house. She could get lost for days in them. She had tons and tons. When she passed, My other auntie had someone come in to clean her place. She loosely told to throw out any paper clutter etc... Oy. Big mistake. Every single one of her magazines hit the dumpster. When Aunt Mary went back for the inspection, HORRIFIED would not cover her mistake! So many gorgeous magazines had been thrown away because she wasn't specific. Can you just imagine?
It looks like you scored big time! Nice finds.
Hugs

I absolutely love these magazines! I am in my mid 40's and a friend gave me her entire vintage Victoria collection when I was 28. I still love going through them and in actuality, I go to them often for inspiration in my photo shoots and even started a website of items I have found and added that are reminiscent of all that is related to these magazines!
It has been a ton of work to put products and blog posts together, but I enjoy it so immensely, I can't believe how beautiful and inspiring even the writings are, especially the quotes and enchanting images.
I don't know what happened to this style of magazine as there are so many people out there that still find it interesting. I believe too, that given the chance, we could get a whole new generation interested in this style.
At any rate, I will never get rid of my magazines and I will continue to keep it going as long as I can. I would love to see you all there....
