~WAH-LAH~
(We've Got Water Man!)
I hope you all had a fabuloso weekend! I'm sooo excited to share with you that my Mr. AGPMan and I made some serious headway in our TINY MASTER BATH remodel and that has put me in the best of moods! :)
~ORIGINAL SINK AREA~
(Somebody Help Me! WAH!)
Funny how something as LITTLE (?) as tearing out an old nasty bathroom straight down to the studs and then working like a dog for months and months to put it back together can help you find 'your happy place' once you can see an end to the madness (how's that for a run-along statement?)...
~DARLING CABINET BEFORE~
Anyway...have a FEW new pics to show you and also a SHORT/MINIFIED TUTORIAL on how I got my darling bathroom cabinet to go from the picture you see above to the one you see below:
Anyway...have a FEW new pics to show you and also a SHORT/MINIFIED TUTORIAL on how I got my darling bathroom cabinet to go from the picture you see above to the one you see below:
~TOTALLY COTTAGE CHIC~
Now...before you say anything about me redoing the cabinet hear me out first...
I LOVED IT THE WAY IT WAS! I DID!
But...
As much as I loved how it came to me from the factory I decided after it was in place it was just TOOOOO DARK for my very pale, creamy decor...to be honest with you the color sorta reminded me of 'uncooked duck' (sorry!). Anyway I set my cap to change it and so that is exactly what I did!
Here's the scoop:
~PAINTED CABINET COTTAGE WHITE~
The first step in redoing the cabinet was to lightly sand the outside with a medium grit sand paper. I did not rub the finish very much, just enough to remove the glossy coating.
The second step was to prime the cabinet with ZINSSER PRIMER. This is Bonding Primer and it helps the new paint bond to the original finish.
After the Cabinet was primed I then gave it three LIGHT COATS of my very favorite Cottage White Paint (from Behr/Home Depot). I used a Satin Finish and applied it with a sponge brush.
~GLAZE and PAINT~
After the Cabinet had fully cured (two days) I mixed up equal parts of Glaze and Paint in a small bowl (I'm talking a tiny amount...maybe two tablespoons of each).
With a small paintbrush the glaze-paint mixture was applied to the crevices of the Cabinet
and then the excess was lightly wiped away with a soft white cloth.
(Because glaze dries a bit slower than regular paint you have a LITTLE "OPEN TIME" before the glaze-paint sets up!)
~USE A CHEAP THROW-AWAY BRUSH~
Trust me when I say this 'technique' is easier and far less messy that using an oil-based glaze. I love that look too (which is more difficult to master in my opinion), but if the truth be told I like this one just as much!
~EASY TO DO DOORS~
(I painted the knobs/handles, too!)
~TOTALLY YUMMO~
To finish up I gave the cabinet two light coats of a water-based acrylic sealer. Since the Cabinet is near water and moisture I wanted to be sure to seal the finish in the best way possible!
~FABULOUS FIXTURES~
Now...if you've followed my blog for very long you know by now that I am a die-hard deal-finder! :) I can sniff out a sale better than most anyone (OK...except for my friend, Judy the Beauty...she's the best). Earlier this past year I knew we were going to be needing both a new sink fixture as well as a new shower head/handle combo~ So, I startedscheming hunting looking for the best deal I could find!
Well, one day last fall I was shopping in Tuesday Morning and found the absolutely amazing faucet set you see above. It has a brushed nickle finish and I absolutely love how it looks on the new sink (which we purchased at a reduced price because of a SMALL FLAW in the finish!).
~ORIGINAL PRICE WAS $269.99~
What? Give me a break! But...after checking the price out at Lowe's and Home Depot that price was spot-on...maybe $30 higher, but not too far off Tuesday Morning's original tagged price!
~FABULOUS PRICE of $69.00~
(Whoot! Whoot! Whoot!)
All in all we did save about $200 on just this one little (but totally necessary) item! How cool is that???
~ANOTHER SHOT INSTALLED~
~VINTAGE LIGHTING~
(Old Lace and Sweet Viney Fleurs)
The bath remodel has not been without some angst. We opted to leave the toilet in it's original place and it wasn't until AFTER the tile was installed and the floor set that we wished we had moved it over to the left about 4"-5". There had once been a pocket door between the sink and the toilet and we failed to take it's removal into consideration when reformatting the space. That said..we aren't changing anything. No way. That small detail (even though it sorta bugs me) IS WHAT IT IS!
I hope you love what you have seen so far. I promise...before long I'll show you more!
~I'M SO LOVING HER!~
Hope you are having a wonderful day.
Love to you...

Be still, my heart! TOOOOOO beautiful for words! Great job painting your gorgeous cabinet! I would never have the nerve to take a brand new piece and repaint it:) Enjoy your new bathroom and hurry up and show more! HUGS!
What a big sigh of relief. Well, it is stunning that is all I can say. You and Mr. AGPMan should be very proud. Oh and that deal on the faucet and hardware is amazing. That is worthy of a happy dance, or two, or three. I cannot get over how expensive decent faucets are and I am sure you are like me...I always like the pricier items. I am making myself crazy right now looking for a coffee table for my living room. Of course the ones I like are about 3-4 times more money than I want to spend (sighing). The search continues.
Hugs, Sue
Hi Rebecca,
Wow! and two thumbs up from me! your bathroom looks "GREAT" its so pretty..
All your and Mr. GPA Mans hard work has paid off. You have a dream Master Bath...
I can't wait to see more..
Have a sweet day and hugs, Elizabeth
Spectacular!
wow great bath cabinet! judy
It's beautiful Rebecca! Oh, you're so good. I've never glazed anything before. Now when you put your glaze on, did you wipe some off before you sealed it? It's just so pretty and I love your pretty mirror with all the "Rebecca touches". :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
To C Pohl: I added a picture of the viney floral spray and vintage crochet scarf on the mirror. The flowers are about 18 years old and near close to retirement. But...I love them so much I keep babying them along.
To Sheila: Yes...some of the glaze was wiped off with a soft white cloth so only the excess can be seen settling into the cracks and grooves! :)
More soon...xo~R
Hi Rebecca :) You are such a tease, LOL :) I've just been loving seeing these pics of your bath redo, and I am in love with that darling cabinet!! Looking forward to seeing more.
Warmest hugs, Brenda
Rebecca, absolutely beautiful is all I can say! I really like the way you painted it. The other was way too harsh for your home. Good going, girl! You did it and at a good price too. Woo Hoo! I'm always game for a "sale" price.

Paint away, it looks great! I don't know why we have so much angst about painting stuff. I do the same thing should I or shouldn't I. I can't wait for the full reveal, now, don't point out that 4-5 inches, no one but you will notice it if you don't point it out.

I have to say Rebecca, this looks so much better to me, than the before shot of that beautiful piece. Oh, it just makes me sick not being able to really do what I want in my home because we rent. You go girl and blow our minds with this bathroom renovation, its already looking SO fabulous! Great Super Job Well Done!!

Hello Rebecca!
Your bathroom is looking fabulous!! Everything is just marvelous!!!
We did a "to the studs" reno in our master bath last spring. Actually we hired our friend to do it. We bought a very similar vanity at Lowes, except ours has a walnut finish. I am still debating as to whether I will paint ours!!! After seeing yours I am leaning more towards the cottage white look!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
Love and warm hugs, Laura
looks GREAT!!!!!
Awesome,
d
Oh, I love the vanity. It looks so much better after the transformation..like an expensive piece of Thomasville. Now I am trying to figure the sink top, do you have granite or silstone?
This is a really lovely rennovation.
