~WAVING OF THE PALMS and FAITHFUL TEACHINGS~

SING HOSANNA UNTO THE LORD
(I Love This Print)

Growing up with a preacher-man as a father you can imagine that attending church each Sunday and participating in worship was a very big part of my life.  We rarely, if ever, missed a service, even though there were many times I would much rather have stayed snuggled-up warm in my bed than dress for church for the gazillionth time. :)

Still, some of the best memories from my childhood surround attending Sunday School , especially on Palm and Easter Sunday.  I loved the Cantatas (Choir Specials) and the always delightful children's programs.  The waving of the palm branches depicting Jesus' entrance to the City always set my heart to wondering.

As an adult I'm a little embarassed to tell you that most times I was more interested in the church-wide egg hunts and devouring my candy-filled Easter basket than learning about things that were Holy.  However, somehow after years of instruction the message of God's love and the sacrifice of His beloved Son were understood.

I am so thankful that God truly understands and loves the hearts of His children...and that He saw fit to bless my siblings and I with amazing parents who never wavered in their teachings.

In my heart I proudly wave my Palm Branch...willingly welcoming His presence in my life~

HOSANNA!  BLESS YOU KING OF KINGS!

Love, Rebecca

Lovely post Rebecca.
I daresay that most of us were excited more about bunnies and colored eggs when we were children.
When I was a child, I thought as a child, but I have put away childish things...and so have you, Isn't it the most amazing thing to know that when we leave this earthly clay vessel, we will at last be poured out into our Saviour's arms, there to learn at his feet his precious plan for his children. Thank God for the promise of Easter.
It's not Tradition anymore for me.
I expect to see him in all his resurrection glory one sweet day.
you are a joy to know..
Have a peaceful palm Sunday.

sunday morning.

i was raised just like you, which i am
so grateful for!

must admit, thought, that i got into
lots of trouble at church. if that's
where you are all the time, i guess
that's where you act up. :)

Hi, Precious! I couldn't agree more! I'm waving a palm frond right along with you in my heart, too! :-)

I just wanted you to know something. I was speaking to someone this weekend who was telling me something very interesting about patients with alzheimers. They said that someone had done experiments and discovered that those patients who seeminly are out of contact with everyone, have the same response a baby has when some particular stimulus is administered. Something about turning their cheek to the caregiver.

I immediately thought about you when I read this. So your sweet, dear father DOES know that you are near and that you love him, Rebecca. It's just that he's like a small infant and can't respond in the way in which you're accumstomed. But he knows and feels and loves like a baby does. I wanted to share that with you, and I hope it brings you some comfort.

Warm hugs across the miles for a blessed Easter season!

XO,

Sheila :-)

Loved the picture you added but oh what tiny fronds on greenery they had. The children came into church yesterday morning waving the biggest fronds of tree ferns (no palm leaves available) while the congregation shouted out Hosanna, and so started the services for holy week.
may you and your family have a very blessed Easter.

Right there waving my palm with you. I love this season of the church calendar. This is the most sacred week of our Liturgical Calendar.
From Holy Thursday on til Sunday. Blessings be to you and yours.

Hosannah! I am with you Rebecca! There was a time in my life when bunnies, chocolate, and marshmallow peeps were all I thought Easter was all about. Praise be to God for prayers of the faithful ones to bring me to my knees!
This is my favorite of all weeks to truly walk in His footsteps.

Rebecca, in our church bulletin today it said, sure we love bunnies and candy eggs but there's much more to this season. I thought that was a perfect description on a simple level.

The kids had a processional in church today waving their palm fronds and singing. There were lambs and a donkey. It was precious!!

Oh Rebecca, I absolutely feel and love your post! My grandfather was a minister when I was a young girl...we lived two doors down from my grandparents and were in church every Sunday, Sunday School, some weekdays and every Summer! I loved going to church to hear my grandfather and see him sit with the pastor of the church...I thought that was sooo cool. I remember communion and how much fun I thought it was to have a piece of cracker and grape juice..."Do this in remembrance of ME" I'm eating HIS Body and Drinking HIS Blood? Really wow I would think to myself...I understood the sacrifice and the specialness of this event...still I loved eating the cracker and drinking the grape juice! I also remember Easter Sunday and dressing up so pretty for that day. I remember the Palms and how mom had her's in the car window and grandpa too. How I loved to get them and peel them apart..how I learned that the Passover meant the BLOOD protected those covered by it and how Easter meant so much more then colored eggs and candy...but even still...I remember the Easter Egg Hunts in the church yard and how I couldn't wait for the service to end so that I could get out there to find the most eggs. You see all that foundation made us who we are...We understand the significance of Easter and God's Love. So all those mornings, evenings, weekends and summers were well worth the growth and knowledge we have obtained of OUR KING! Happy Easter my sister in Christ! Let us always remember and never forget we are forever in HIS Service. xoxo
I LOVE Your Blog, your Spirit and Your Witness to Our Lord! I love that I've found you this way...Lovey

Gmorn, Rebecca ~
AMEN to your memories & thoughts, my sweet friend!

We kids were so excited about easter egg hunts & getting home to that Easter basket full of goodies ... & our wee-kid-lings do the same now. One day they will, as do we, ask God to continue in our lives each day ... telling their wee ones to wave the welcoming palms.

Be safe, have a lovely trip ... stay in touch as time permits.

Hugs of love, Marydon
