~WHY A SHAMROCK and Lovin' My IRISH SIDE~

My beautiful father is very proud of his Irish Heritage.  My maiden name is Elliott. Spelled with two "L's" and two "T's", thank you!

Someday I hope to visit Ireland.  For my father and for me.

My Mr. AGPMan says that I'm a "High Maintenance Gal".

No doubt due to my Irish blood generously sprinkled with French,  Native American, English and Scotch.

Lethal combination. :) :) :)

Why did St. Patrick use a shamrock?

Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Trinity, and has been associated with him and the Irish since that time.  He was a humble, pious, gentle man, whose love and total devotion to and trust in God should be a shining example to each of us. He feared nothing, not even death, so complete was his trust in God, and of the importance of his calling.  After years of living in poverty, traveling and enduring much suffering, he died March 17, 461.

I have NO IDEA how green beer made it's way into the mix, but I'm quite sure one of you will tell me! :)

Now...

If you'd like to read a tad bit more about the song "Oh Danny Boy" below (via a book review), click here.  If' you'd like to listen to a beautiful version of it sung by Eva Cassidy, turn your volume up or on!

OH DANNY BOY
The Londonderry Air (Music)
Edward Wheatherly (Lyric)

Oh Danny boy, the pipes the pipes are calling,
From glen to glen and on the mountainside.
The summer's gone and all the leaves are falling,
'Tis you must go, 'tis you must go and I must bide!

But come you back, when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hush and white with snow !
Then I'll be there in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh Danny Boy, Oh Danny Boy, I love you so !

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

Oh Danny Boy, Oh Danny Boy, I love you so!

Even though the song may not EVEN be Irish, I still love it.  Some think it is sad...but not me.  Beautiful music is never sad to me, just thought provoking.

In the meantime, have a wonderful time celebrating this amazing LIFE with those you love.
I'll be wearing GREEN (with a dash of PINK!)...xo

Rebecca.
May you have a sweet St. Patty's day!
I heard that St. Pat was originally kidnapped and put into slavery as a young boy to herd sheep in Ireland.
Took the Christian name Patrick and the rest is history.
I think this is very interesting what a young man did with his life coming out of slavery!!! With the spirit of God in him...this for sure background didn't hold him down.
God bless,
d

I did not know that about the shamrock. I will never look at one the same again. We always have a lot of clover in our yard... I like it... the geese like to eat it too. Lovely song. Happy st. Patrick's day to you!
Blessings!

Dear Rebecca,

I hope you have a Happy St. Patrick's Day. I got so tickled about your 'lethal combination' of blood! I do hope you can go to Ireland one day! I loved reading about St. Patrick. We have a wonderful cd we love to listen to about his life. It was just incredible! He was such a godly man.

Thank you for sharing the beautiful song. I love the beautiful cross with roses and one of the most wonderful verses in God's word!

Have a blessed day sweet friend!
Love, Paula

P.S. Green and pink are lovely together! :)

Hello Rebecca... what a beautiful post! Yes, that is some combination of your heritage, I love it! I have some Scotch in me too, beside the French... I would love to visit Ireland some day too... Jack IS Irish, so we go all out for St. Patrick's Day... as far as the green beer, I am not sure how that started! But our local bakery today had EVERYTHING green, like they always do, bread, hamburger buns, rolls, brownies, kind of fun! Happy St. Patrick's Day to you! xoxo Julie Marie

Danny Boy has always been one of my favorite songs. I can remember Andy Williams singing it back in the day when he had a show on t.v.

This is just the most precious of blogs! So reflects you, Rebecca. But of course you sing and play. It only makes sense..and of course you are of Irish heritage. My last name is Duffy. My grandfather was from Ireland. My sons love to travel there. I was so sorry Patrick never made it. He dreamed of going. We both did.
A beautiful post today...

I have always wanted to visit Ireland too. It seems like such a mystical and magical land and all that green scenery calls out to me. I am always puzzled how people can love the desert with all of it's shades of brown. Give me GREEN meadows and trees any day.

Love Danny Boy too, it's such a beautiful song. Happy St. Patrick's Day Rebecca, I hope it's full of delightful little leprechauns and a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

Rebecca, having been to Ireland to take Mother's (heart) ashes back to where she loved & missed & had to leave her fiance, I can tell you it is a ba-zillion shades of greens one can never imagine, the country is beyond beautiful belief.

If you go to my post for today there is a link at the bottom with exquisite photos of Ireland to 'take you away' & a beautiful narration of Roma Downey presenting an Irish Blessing. It is very moving. I hope you will take the time to SEE the beauty, for the moment, to enjoy & visualize. We saw nearly every scene shown.

We are the Carty's from Blackwater, County Wexford ...

Hugs of love & green shamrock blessings, Marydon
