Remember the old TV Show DRAGNET? When I was little we use to watch it at my Gramma's house all the time and I can still hear Sargent Joe Friday speaking in his dry and non-emotional way, "Just the facts, Ma'am! Just the facts!" So...instead of boring you with lots of non-essential statistics I thought I 'd go straight to the chase...
Here's the Skinny...
I was at my local Doc's place just before Christmas and then THREE TIMES right after New Year's with the "wish I was dead" FLU. As usual I had to get on the DREADED SCALE for a quick "weigh-in" and I'm not afraid to tell you this caused me much ANGST!. Still, as sick as I felt I wasn't up to arguing with my Doctor's Head Nurse (who I lovingly call BROOMHILDA!) over STEPPING ON or NOT STEPPING ON the scale. Beings it was just AFTER Christmas and I had consumed things like CHOCOLATE ALMOND BRITTLE, SUGARED ALMONDS (who provided those recipes anyway?????), all that Figgy Pudding and of course my family's infamous FRUUUUUUUUUIT...KKKKKKKAKE I was just a tad bit nervous about what I might find out. Even so, inside I quietly thought
"HOW BAD CAN IT BE?
HOW BAD CAN IT BE????"
Now...have you evahhhhh stepped up on a scale and tried leaning a little to the LEFT in hopes the weight-slider might follow your lead and stop climbing to the right?
Well...it didn't work.
Long story short is this...I nearly FAINTED right then and there over the number I saw starring back before me. Now...this totally bums-me-out because last year I lost 18 pounds and kept it off until my Mr. AGPMan and I went gallivanting around the deep south late last Summer and Fall and consumed too much food at places like O'Charley's and the like... Not ONLY did I gain every single pound back (which wasn't ALL I needed to lose in the first place), but I found a few more pound-friends along the way... The hubbs did, too!
BAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Sooo....back to "Just the facts, ma'am! Just the facts!"
I decided to rejoin Weight Watcher's because even though I certainly do like my body not so FAT FLUFFY the bottom line for me is this...
Heart Disease is the number one cause of death for women and that takes into consideration ALL forms of cancer (including breast cancer). I am absolutely serious about shedding the 30 pounds I've packed on since having my second child back in 1984. I've decided I love my own Heart enough to take really good care of her for the rest of my life.
Pinky-Heart Swear.
"Just the facts, Ma'am! Just the facts!"
Love to you...

Oh my, you stepped on all of our toes! I think most of us probably need to stick to the "facts!" Happy dieting! I'm pulling for you!
Me too, me too! I gained all the weight back I lost...I can't even say how much it just won't come out of my month..LOL.
I need to go back to WWW too.
I have been feeling so sluggish and my jeans are just to tight..LOL
When Gary's asks me how much do you weigh I just laugh at him and say "enough" he laughs too because he knows I will never tell him how much I weigh.
Have a sweet day and big hugs, Elizabeth
Ha ha..when my Mom was at the Dr....my Dad actually put his foot on the scale and she almost fainted.....
Last year I was at my heaviest for me.....and i started weight watchers..it works..if u stick to it..it really does work andf it is real eating.....I lost about 15 lbs and was interested in losing about 5 more...but with the breakup of my marriage And stress the 5 came off and then it became 10......so know i m right where i always wanted to b again....but it looks different at 41 and I need to excercise. For awhile I was losing too much and my hair started to look bad. As woman it is sooo hard. Good luck and u look beautiful..just the way u r....but only u know what u would like ..so I say..GO FOR IT!
Oh Rebecca I had the same thing happen a year ago. When I finally decided to cut out ALL sugar ladened foods and drinks, 10 pounds just melted off. Since November of 2009 I've lost 2 dress sizes :-) Thanks for the facts :-)

Good for you Rebecca, going back on weight watchers!... I love it because it is not a diet, but a healthy lifestyle and you can eat so many yummy things and still be healthy... you don't look like you need to lose any to me, but it is how you feel for sure that counts. After losing my mama to a stroke 28 years ago, and seeing my daddy go through bypass surgery some years ago, I am very watchful of how we eat and take care of our hearts... I hope ALL the ladies read your post and "TAKE IT TO HEART"!... I also loved Dragnet, just the fact's ma'am"... I have my own "Sgt. Friday" (Jack) to remind me of that as well!... xoxo Julie Marie
First of all... I loved your article. Great way with words. I enjoy it when I feel the person is right there in the room with me - big smile and grimace at the same time! Glad to hear you want to take care of your body. Sigh and Alas...I gained at least 30 pounds over the last year. Aarrghhh!! I'm scared to step on the scale - it might be more by now! :(
Regardless, I'm glad you understand the importance of taking care of your body to the best of your ability. That really is key.
Good luck on your journey! :)
Oh Sweet Girlfriend I'm right there with you! I lost 13 lbs. But during the holidays....gained 14!!! Pooh-Bah! I'm on it though...14 are coming off, then I can get busy with the other 20!! (smiles) You're not alone pal!! Good luck to both of us!! Blessings, Sharon
Your post is very sweetly written, and I send you my support for reaching your goal. Do you have exercise you enjoy? I like walking and exercising in a pool so that is what I do.
To Terra: Oh YES! I ride my exercise bike every single day for at least 45 minutes. I LOVE IT and already feel stronger.
Hugs to you~Rebecca
Oh my goodness, Rebecca... did you have to bring it up? I have a few pounds to lose too! I am only 5'0" and every pound on me looks like so much more than a pound! My husband has lost 55-60 pounds over the past year and I can't drop 6-8 pounds... rediculous!
Just the fact Ma'am... I gotta get with it too! Exercise is the key, smaller portions (which goes with WW) and lots of veggies! I know what to do, just gotta do it!
Thanks for the gentle nudge:) HUGS from your chubby little Georgia friend!
my rules when I go to the Doctor. Can I close my eyes when weighing in 2nd don't tell me my weight just is it up or down. I have little guts, just too much fat. take care and best in weight reduction effort. Rose
Oh Rebecca: I feel your pain. This Feb., it will be two years that I quit smoking cold turkey (yeah me) but I gained 30 lbs. Waaa Waaa....I've been trying (not so hard) for about a year to get it off. A few weeks ago, I got serious just doing old fashioned calorie counting. Today, I put on a pair of jeans that are less snug. So...it's working but BABY STEPS. Keep up the good work. You will get it off. Thinking of it in terms of heart health helps. My mother died of a massive heart attack when she was 55. So, that's always on my mind.

Good for you beautiful Rebecca. I need to do more...but I have started walking again and being more aware of what I am eating.
Rebecca-You are in good company in this blog place! I think the hardest thing I have ever had to do (well, almost) is to keep my weight in check. I am up...and then down and then up again. I loved the old WW plan..and my son lost 50 pounds about a year or so ago following WW and has kept it all off...as a matter of fact he dropped about 5 pounds after he reached his goal.
I need to do something too and have been thinking about what that should be. I think I need to do it NOW. Hugs and thanks for the inspiration. xxoo Diana
Good Luck sweet Rebecca!! I am struggling with the weight issue too. The weight watchers diet works. but I get frustrated and stop doing what I should.......vicious cycle for me.
I need to be right next to you doing the exact same thing. I do so much better in the summer when I exercise in the garden. During school, not so much. ♥♫
Hey kid you are in good company, I just rejoined weight watchers for the 100th time, it is great to catch it early and 3o# is early if you watch "The biggest loser" Your going to freak with the new program, I love it, I lost 6.5 lbs this my first week. You have to buy a new calculator and dining out guide, but that is about all. It is tough if you were use to the old program all is new. The first time to the grocery store is brutal trying to figure it all out. Good for you, for taking the first step.

Dearest Rebecca,
Well, I've never managed to gain 30 lbs in my entire life. Last year I lost so much that I got down to a scary 103 lbs. How I tried after getting out of the hospital and rid of my paralyzed stage, to GAIN. It didn't work. Took me a long time to get to my 116 lb and last week I got my new driver's license with that figure on it. Still somewhat bloated in my face from the Prednisone but as long as I stay away from photo-sessions, that's fine. Pieter too lost some weight since his open heart surgery but it is okay; we're eating healthy and want to continue that road! Both of us never have been overweight, we stayed about the same all our adult lives, but still as you age you need even less. Next month we both will start work outs at the fitness center now Pieter's maximum stress test came back perfect. Hope together we'll keep doing that for another twenty years.
But why in the world are all restaurants and hotels working against us? Often we wonder why they ignore us baby boomers and the ones above us? Neiman Marcus has a Heart Couture menu but so far I guess they're the only beacon in the mist...
Oh, guess I'm lucky that I'm T2D and cut back on my sugar since 2007; that works for sure!
Lots of luck to all of you and think seriously about it. You know what the heart surgeon told Pieter after surgery? That actually ONLY 3% change their life style after such an impact. Well, Pieter is at the top of that 3% that's for sure.
Love,
Mariette
Hi Rebecca: I need to do the same thing. I need to take your advise and lose 30 pounds too. It is so hard for me. I will pray that it will come easy for you. Blessings, Martha
