~~~~~THOUGHTS ON A SUNDAY MORNING~~~~~ Shepherd of Love
A HEART FILLED WITH LOVE
Growing up a PK (Preacher's Kid) exposed my siblings and I to lots and lots of traditional, contemporary and standard church music.  If you've followed my bloggie for any time at all you probably know that by now.  Rarely did a week go by when my older sister, Linda, and I didn't learn at least one new song or two...or three.  Music, especially gospel music, was one of the mainstays in our childhood home.  I appreciate the early teachings of our parents more today than ever before...  For the beautiful lyrics and the often simple melodies helped to build within me a foundation of love and faith in The Most High.
Below are the words to a pretty song written by the amazing John W. Peterson.  A couple of years ago I wrote to Mr. Peterson (who is now in his 80's) via email (through his grandson) telling him how much his songs had meant to me over the years.  I was shocked when I received a personal, heartfelt reply from Mr. Peterson himself in which he shared his deep love for music...and for his Savior...
 For me there is no greater love than the one that comes from Him, the Gentle Shepherd.
  SHEPHERD OF LOVE
written by John W. Peterson
Shepherd of Love, You knew I had lost my way;
Shepherd of Love, You cared that I'd gone astray.
You sought and found me, placed around me
Strong arms that carried me home;
No foe can harm me or alarm me,
Never again will I roam
Shepherd of love, contentment at last is mine;
Deep in my heart, there's peace and a joy divine.
The future's brighter, burden's lighter,
My cup runs over each day;
Your grace supplied me,
Now provides me all that I need for the way.
Shepherd of Love, my Savior and Lord and Guide;
Shepherd of Love, forever I'll stay by Your side.
You sought and found me, placed around me
Strong arms that carried me home;
No foe can harm me, or alarm me,
Never again will I roam!
Shepherd of Love, my Savior and Lord and Guide,
Shepherd of Love, forever I'll stay by Your side.
I love the old hymns too, and how nice that you wrote to thank the hymn writer and he answered you.
