~~OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING ANNIVERSARY~~ We'll Remember For Always

I love to write about happy things.  Things about love, life, faith and family.  Although there are beautiful things all around us there is also a great deal of ugliness in our world.  If at all possible I try and not focus upon it.  Instead I try my best to think on the positive things that God has blessed us with.

However, today my beloved State of Oklahoma, the place I've called home for nearly twenty-five years, marks the sixteenth anniversary of one of the worst attacks ever made upon American ground.  And so~ I just can't let the day pass without acknowledging it and the people who lived to tell our story of resilience and survival...
The Oklahoma City bombing was a bomb attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995.  It was the most destructive act of terrorism on American soil until the September 11, 2001 attacks. The Oklahoma blast claimed 168 lives, including 19 children under the age of 6, and injured more than 680 people. The blast destroyed or damaged 324 buildings within a sixteen-block radius, destroyed or burned 86 cars, and shattered glass in 258 nearby buildings. The bomb was estimated to have caused at least $652 million worth of damage.  Extensive rescue efforts were undertaken by local, state, federal, and worldwide agencies in the wake of the bombing, and substantial donations were received from across the country. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) activated eleven of its Urban Search and Rescue Task Forces, consisting of 665 rescue workers who assisted in rescue and recovery operations.

Please make time to pray for Oklahoma and her people today.  Healing is still taking place in the hearts of those who survived and there isn't one of us who will ever forget our profound loss...

Blessings today for a day lived in peace.

Love to you...

Rebecca, thank you so much for your lovely rememberance of this terrorist attack that claimed so many American lives. I was working on a U.S. Navy HQ base at the time and the devastation hit all of us for a long time (we also received numerous "copy cat" threats)). We read that New Orleans was also on the list. So many babies, innocent lives...unbelievable.

My prayers to the families and loved ones who still have to live with this memory.

Thanks again for the post.

Hi Rebecca, I always remember this very sad event because it happened on mine and Antony’s 15th Wedding Anniversary. It was such a happy day till we turned on the TV and heard how so many people had lost their lives and the lives of loved ones!!

Today we celebrate our 31st year of marriage, and I spare a thought for those who lost their loving spouses. I thank God daily for my precious Hubby and the amazing love that we share, and I feel so much for people I don't even know, but they are people who share a day with me and mine for such different reasons!! My prayer is that God will comfort all those who still grieve and miss their loved ones!

Thank you for remembering too!!

Much love my dear friend!!

Rebecca...

My husband and I visited the Oklahoma City Memorial a few years ago. It's a very moving place...the empty chairs...the spontaneous tributes that have been placed on the street. The thought of how many children perished here is still absolutely heart-wrenching.

We shall continue to pray for the families who lost loved ones on that awful day.

What a sad day for America when this happened. It affected everyone, even though we were not there. My heart goes out to those who were directly affected and who had so much loss. I cannot imagine why anyone would want to do such things. They must have no heart or conscience. Praying for all in Oklahoma.

remember this well.
I had quit my job to prepare for a move.

Went to a store and heard women talking about an explosion in Oklahoma City. That night on the news so much more would be revealed. I was living in Marion, Kansas where it is believed McVey stole blasting caps that were used from the Marion Quarry.

You know, we were driving down the road just this week and my husband mentioned the OK tragedy. We were again reminded the horrors of that day. Neither shall we forget.
