~FOLLOW YOUR SOUL...~

Today I'm killing myself diligently working in my studio trying to organize my work space.  I must say that it has gotten completely out of control.

Seriously.

Way too much STUFF and now that I no longer have a large retail booth I have no need for all the extra paraphernalia!  I've loaded up four huge bins worth of JUNQUE and off to the donation center I will go this afternoon!  And I have a lot more reorganizing to go before I'm finished!  I'm already excited about the final outcome!

It feels good to purge. And weed out...

To give away.

To share.

To toss.
I feel like I can breathe again...(well, almost!)...

I somewhat liken working within my studio walls to the life of an avid gardener.  Just like tending the earth's soil and making sure it's nutrients are rich and balanced by the Planter, so goes my life as a sewer of fine things.  If I'm not careful, weeds of workplace disorganization flourish (from a lack of "pruning"?) and I end up with an abundance of dormant supplies (barren seeds?) complicated by the mind-boggling awareness I've wasted a lot of hard-earned ca$h.  It's impossible for me to create anything in a space that is overgrown and full of weeds.  I end up standing around and asking myself "where do I begin?"...
The Silhouette Cutter I purchased nearly three years ago is a great example of what I'm talking about.

WEEDS!

I swore I just had to have it...  I've used it ONCE and it's gathered a lot of dust  since dragging it home!  That EXPENSIVE piece of equipment was NOT necessary for me to design the things I'm passionate about creating.  That fancy gizmo may be fabulous for someone else, just not for me.  At least not now anyway.  Honestly,   I'd rather have my $275 back!!!!

Choices!

Sometimes I make really silly ones!

I have at least another full day of work ahead of me before I finish "tilling the piles of fabric" in hopes they will one day bloom into a garden of lovely keepsakes.

I've asked God to help me tend to the field before me and pay attention to the fleurs budding within my own hothouse instead of staring at the plantings in another's...

I'm following my soul.  It knows the way.
"It was already planted in good soil and had plenty of water so it could grow into a splendid vine and produce rich leaves and luscious fruit."  Ezekiel 17:8 NLT

Love to you...

Rebecca

I’m starting to follow my Soul. I just did a major booth downsizing last week and now have to do the purge, keep, sell sorting.

I am starting to follow my Soul also. I downsized my large booth to a small booth last week. It is something I had talked about for a long time. Now the fun begins of sorting, purging and keeping for selling.

I love your garden analogy. I must do that very same thing of tending to the weeds in my own garden. Thanks for giving me the push I have needed 💕

Hi Janet...

You know, I think something WONDERFUL happens to us when we take the time to refocus and make a decision to be true to our own calling. Letting go of my big booth was a tough decision...but it was the right one. With the purging of my studio has come a cleansing of sorts. I'm excited for you! You seem to feel the same way! ONWARD! <3 R

Loved reading your candid comments here so much - words I think I needed to hear - and as a bonus, I think you've just convinced me I don't need that Cricut Maker I've been thinking I can't do without - Hah!... ;-)

I'm so made I bought that thing...trying to follow others and what they were/are doing instead of being faithful to my own calling. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I laughed out loud about the Cricut Maker! <3

Good for you Rebecca. I bet it feels wonderful to let go of some of the past things that mean nothing now and start fresh. New ideas and new adventures with your creative soul.
Hope you enjoyed the long weekend.
Hugs,
Kris

I am so glad to see your blog and to read about your reorganization/purging going on. This post gave me: Hope. I can do this. You are so talented. Your work is breathtakingly beautiful.

It's my house that's filled with weeds. I live in a small NYC apartment, and my silly purchases are piling up. I buy a lot less these days, but over the years I've accumulated way too much. My soul will be happier with a lot less around me.

Dearest Rebecca,
As we age, it is the best thing for weeding things out and keeping order.
Hobbies we once seemed to be passionate about never yielded the full use of things purchased. Thus, giving them away, making someone happy is a good thing to do.
I've decided about two years ago that I no longer knit anything so all my needles etc. etc. I've shipped off to our foster-daughter in Indonesia. She was so happy with all of it and besides her work, she's creating lots of things handmade for sale.
Sending you hugs,
Mariette

It is always good to let go of things that bring clutter but are no need to you anymore. I am learning. HUGS
