~MY BEAUTIFUL FATHER~

 My Daddy
2003

They tied our shoes, took us to school,
patched our worn-out jeans
They soothed our tears and calmed our fears,
and listened to our dreams
Somewhere along their golden years,
their hair has lost its sheen
The notes to hymn one-hundred-ten
crackle when they sing
And now they are alone,
no children's voices fill their empty homes.
 My Daddy and I
About 1976/77

We must love them while we can,
we must love them while we can
In High School
About 1975

For time just seems to hurry by,
and the days slip into years
And the moments that we have will disappear
So love them while we can
My Daddy
Naval Veteran - 1956

The folks that taught us our first words,
still have much to say
The silver secrets of the world,
lie beneath those crowns of gray
As they approach the end,
we change our role from children to best friend
 Last Christmas
2010

We always thought they'd be around
Until the end of time
Until one day we wake and find ...

We must love them while we can,
we must love them while we can

And the moments that we have will disappear
So love them while we can

Dear Daddy...

Today I'm thinking of you with a grateful heart.  The many things you've have taught me about life and the living of it remain within me to this day.  Your sacrifices have not gone unnoticed for your love and full acceptance of me have helped make me the person I am today.

I would have been totally lost without you.

I long to share a simple cup of coffee with you again...
Feel your strong, reassuring arms around my shoulders...
I miss our deep conversations
and
you Cheshire Cat grin.

I miss hearing you read your poetry...
Watching you preach...
Bearing witness to your faith...
and
Especially listening to you pray.

I miss feeling safe within your presence...
Knowing my deepest concerns were held within you...
Confidences were never broken...
A careless word you never shared.

I miss your complexity...
Seeing your passion for all you believed in...
The sparkle in your eyes when those you loved
Made you proud.

I miss you.
The whole of you.
The good...
The not so good...
and
The warmth of your hand
Held tightly in mine...

I miss you...
(Please come back to me if you can.)

Happy Father's Day.  You are my hero.

I love you,
Becky Sue

Oh Rebecca, I can hardly type through my tears... your daddy still IS all of those things to you... nothing can take away his beautiful spirit that is still inside of him... in his own way, he is still your protector, your inspiration, your hero, your love... even though my own daddy is gone, he will always be the beautiful things he was (and is) to me... love to you dear friend... xoxo Julie Marie

Rebecca just today I said to my husband once again that a father and son should be a person as your own. not enough work to give well-being, a father must do and be more. I read your post and I get tears, happy because you feel these emotions, sad because I've tried with my father, very sad because my children do not try ....

Beautiful post, Rebecca...you give from your heart, and it shines through. I am sure your daddy was always proud of you and who you grew up to be.."cherish him while you can" is right...every minute. I lost my daddy 35 years ago...much too soon...and I still miss him. I wish I could have hugged him and told him I loved him one more time..
Hold tight to the wonderful men in your life...they are all lucky to have such a loving person in you.
Love, Francy

What a beautiful tribute to your wonderful Daddy. I took my Dad to breakfast this morning and said a prayer thanking God for letting me be with him again this year.. My dad had a heart attack 6 years ago and had a triple bypass, a pacemaker and defibrillator and carries oxygen around but doing great now". Our daddies are special aren't they

That was so beautiful Rebecca. I am sure he knows how much you love him. I am glad that you grew up with a loving daddy.

I never had a daddy. But...I always knew my Heavenly Father was there for me.

My Daddy (that's what I always called him) was able to tell me he was ready to go to heaven the last time I saw him. So I know that someday we will see each other again. It is one of my most precious memories that I have of the time I spent with him during his last few weeks in the hospital. And then I think about our FATHER, and his GRACE, freely given for us, and His love for us--it's more than my mind can ever understand. WOW, aren't we blessed! ♥♫

This is so beautiful, Rebecca.
Your love for your father truly comes through your writing... it's still so strong and you two are still so woven together in memories, in heart and in spirit...
We are so fortunate to have earthly fathers that teach us the incredible love of our Heavenly Father. How beautiful is this love ♥
I hope all the men in your life had a wonderful day yesterday.

Both of my brothers got bad news about their mother-in-laws on Father's Day - outlook on either one isn't good. However, my Dad (and Mom) are in excellent health, but I must love them while I can. Your poem hit home.

Your great love for your father has always been evident since I've known you..
Not everyone has a father like yours was. I did and I am grateful and he was a stepfather but I never even knew until I was nearly grown.
I was so fortunate..and so were you.
A good father is a blessing not everyone has in this world.
Love..

I could not finish the poam . Crying .. Such wonderful words and pictures. I have two memories of my dad that pop in my head all the time. He taught me how to braid my hair and I danced while standing on his feet once. Just once but it is my best memory. Wonderful Post today. Just Wonderful.

A wonderful Tribute and a Wonderful post. Tears streaming down my face...Dads and Daughters such special moments.
We take so much for granted and sometimes it is too late to say I Love You or just Thank You.
I'm so fortunate to have both my parents and after 66yrs of marriage, they are still so in love. I treasure everyday I have them.
Thanks for sharing such beautiful feelings.
