~~~~~THOUGHTS ON A SUNDAY MORNING~~~~~ Under His Wings
~SWEET NEST FOR YOU~
Last month, near the end of June, I shared with you all about the tiny Wren who made a nest for her babies in a garden hose hanging on the wall in my hubby's workshop.  Remember?  Not wanting to get too close, I had a hard time seeing inside the nest, but I was pretty sure two or three tiny eggs were tucked safely inside...
~ONE-TWO~
About ten to twelve days ago we began to hear the faintest little chirps and early this past week I managed to snap a couple of pictures...  One of the two birdies opened her eyes just as I started to click away...
~NEWLY HATCHED~
Every day the Momma Wren would come and go, come and go.  She was off doing what Momma Wrens do I guess...gathering food and water for her young.  A couple of times, when we wandered too close to her babes, she screamed really loudly to 'get away'.   I'm amazed at how she cared for them and how hard she worked to protect them.  Her daily focus was spent on raising up her young.  Each day they would wait patiently for her to return and it's been nothing short of incredible watching them grow.
~PEEKING OUT~
It was so hot inside my hubby's workshop last week that he placed the vintage fan you see below in the direction of the nest to help cool them off.  One day I thought they would surely die from the high temps as the thermometer reached 110 degrees inside the out-building.
For whatever the reason I was so worried about those birdies...
My Mr. AGPMan constantly reminded me that even without the aid of our trusty old fan those tiny baby birdies would be just fine without my our interference...
And they were.
 ~COOLING THEM DOWN~
~HIDING FROM FEAR~
This morning the baby birdies flew away.  While tending to some things in my hubby's shoppe I noticed they were out and about trying desperately to fly.  Momma Birdy was quite upset as she was forcing her babies out of their nest and I was clearly not welcomed during such a private moment.  I watched quietly off to the side while the stronger of her two babies easily found its way outside.  The weaker had a harder time spreading her wings...
~SO FRIGHTENED~
Obviously afraid, the Momma Birdy stayed close by seeing to it her baby had the best chance to reach the sky...
 ~A BIT SIDELINED~
~READY TO FLY~
Finally...after getting a little off course and landing inside an empty box, the tiny little Wren made flight...
And with that the three birdies, the Momma and her two babies, were gone.
Last night one of my dearest friends sent the following story to me...
God's Wings
After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park , forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick. When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother's wings. The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had taken her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies. Then the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body, the mother had remained steadfast....because she had been willing to die, so those under the cover of her wings would live.
~~*~~
Blessings as you remember there is safety in His love ...
'He will cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you will find refuge.'(Psalm 91:4)
Love to you...
You must never sleep...you posted this beautiful story very early this morning...2:33 AM!!! And I am up early
so visiting blogs...yours first..you have totally enchanted me with the story of the little wren and her babies, followed by the other story of the bird in the forest fires, found dead, covering her babies..it made me remember feelings I had when my four babies were so very young and the fierce protection I felt about them. I am sure each of us, as mothers, know the feeling....
Thank you for sharing such a touching story with us today....I hope
Rebecca...what a beautiful post! I know you enjoyed the birdie adventure, as you checked on their progress each day! How wonderful to be able to see all of that. I am glad the two babies learned how to fly under their momma's teaching.
The Yellowstone story is just amazing! Only God could make a mother's love so deep and so real...even in the bird families!
Yes, what a beautiful and vivid picture of our Lord's love for us!
Thanks for sharing this post sweet lady!
Have a very blessed Sunday!
Love you,
Linda
Dear Rebecca,
Thank for sharing your baby wrens with us. My next door neighbors have two nest on their front porch and never tire of hearing their sweet chirps when their mother appears with their nourishment.
The story of the mother bird perishing in the fire to save her young is so, so touching. I cried when I read it. We too, would do the same thing for our children just as Jesus did for us. I love the Psalm 91:4. I am using this scripture for an art project I'm working on.
Thank you again, my dear. Have a wonderful blessed Sunday.
Love, Sonya
A sweet friend of mine passed away last year with terminal cancer and a few months before her passing she got up before our church family and told us not to grieve for her because, just as God watches over the birds of the air, he too, watches over us and she was not afraid. This post reminded of her strong faith. Thanks for that reminder.
oh Rebecca, this is so sad and yet touching about the Mama bird protecting her babies in the fire, but such a great analogy of God's protection of us.
I have somehow always seen the "under His wings" bird as a big, strong Eagle, and a loving, fluffy mother Sparrow bird all in one. Funny, huh?
And yet, God is both. He is strong and can protect us, and he gently loves us as He protects us.
Lovely post.
Dearest Rebecca,
That was a beautiful post about my favorite 'tiny' but feisty birdy! Those wrens are so busy, cleaning insects away, spiders and moving so fast and hyper!
Lots of love,
Mariette
What a wonderful and amazing story!! Thank you for sharing about your little birds and the story your friend sent. We all need to be reminded sometimes that God will protect us under His wings, just as the mother birds protect their little ones.
Isn't it an amazing gift to be able to watch such delicate little creatures raise their young? We were also recently blessed to observe a little Robin family raise 3 little babies in a nest on the corner of our back porch. I was truly sad when the last two babies flew off one morning when I stepped outside.
"God's Wings" is a beautiful story,which so richly tells just how strong and powerful is a Mother's love for her young. Along with the beautiful scripture, it brought tears to my eyes, for He indeed provides refuge to us, "under His wings".
Thank you for another precious blessing, dear Rebecca.
I always know when my life gets me down, I can visit your blog and be reminded of the important things in life and lifted up.
I wonder why man has so many problems believing in God's love for us and Christ's death for our sins and never doubt that a bird or an animal would die to protect and 'save' their young.
