~VINTAGE CROCHET LACE TOTE BAG~
Happy White Wednesday! I'm linking up again this week with Kathleen over at Faded Charm for our weekly celebration of all things white! I hope you'll visit her sweet place when you have time! Always wonderful whites and a great place for lots of inspiration! Incredibly talented ladies out there!
~WHITE MATELASSE FABRIC~
Last July I shared with you a few photos of a sweet tote bag I found at Goodwill. I loved the style of the tote even though the fabric it was made out of was super cheap (especially the lining). The tote came from China and that was the only tag found on the inside.
~ORIGINAL TOTE BAG~
Late last year I finally got around to removing the lining and making a pattern, but that was as far as I got. Gosh...I always have these great plans and then I forget about them when something else comes along~hmmmmmmm...

~VINTAGE PILLOWCASE TRIM~
I used a white Matelasse pillow sham to make the tote! It was a king size sham and just the perfect amount of fabric! It's been lined with vintage white cotton sheeting and a vintage lace trimmed pocket was added to the inside. The handle ties up into a knot at the top.
~LACE POCKET~
I actually think I'd like the Tote better made using a neat flax/linen/cotton fabric as the Matelasse was a tad bit difficult to work with. But...surprisingly I liked the weightiness of it after it was finished. Accented with the edge of a vintage crochet lace pillowcase, self ties and a trio of vintage Lucite buttons.
~SIDE VIEW~
All in all it wasn't too difficult to make...I'm thinking I might make a couple using a rose print cotton for Spring...we'll see!
On Monday my little Yorkie, Mollie, decided to try and make 'nice' with a big, fat UNFRIENDLY gray cat that has been loitering in our backyard and I'm sad to say that the feline won big time!!! No time to blog yesterday as I spent part of Tuesday at the Vet and learned my beloved doggie has a severely sprained back and had to be put on anti-inflammatory and pain meds!!! :....( Right now she can't go up or down our stairs and must be carried everywhere. She is only 4 pounds and it's just heartbreaking to watch her struggle... Those of you who are pet lovers surely understand how concerned we are...
I'm going to try and catch up a little on what I've missed yesterday! Hope your day is lovely!
Love to you...

Oh dear that's no good to hear about your pup hurting herself. I hope she can recover ok, a back injury sounds very nasty. I am housebound due to back problems so know what it's like and your poor pup cannot even talk to tell you exactly. I wonder whether a wheat bag would help her? I wouldn't be without mine. Even in summer.
Hi,Becky!Wonderful post,as always! Your parcel arrived the day before yesterday, I also wrote you a mail! Hugs,Debby
Little Molly will be in our prayers for a quick recovery. Yes it's so heartbreaking when they have issues like what happened to her. Give her a pat on the head from us. My Zoe & Gur will be pulling for her.
Your bag is gorgeous... casual but so pretty. Great creation Rebecca.
Big hugs, Sherry
Beautiful creation! Love that bag! I am so sorry your little Mollie got hurt, that is a too sad! I know you are taking great care of her and will have her well soon! Have a blessed day dear Rebecca, HUGS!
The bag turned out sooo nice! What a difference the choice of fabric makes, it doesn't look anything like the thrifted one. - I am so very sorry about your sweet Mollie, it is so hard to see our furry loved ones in pain. Hopefully she will be on the mend soon. xo
I'm sorry to hear of Molly's misfortune. I know how hard it can be to nurse an injured animal. I do hope she gets to feeling better very soon. Our critters send their paws & sniffs over to yours.
Your tote/purse is fabulous. I can definately agree with working with matelasse being a trying fabric for intricate seams. It can be very bulky even with a 20 needle inserted. It is beautiful none the less. Hugs. T
awww poor wee furbaby ... I am with her on the back issues and unfortunately I am too big to be carried around .. think I will have to come and scare that puddy cat !! love mouse xxxx

Oh I would be in a panic over Mollie...I can't stand when Bentley isn't himself. I hope she recovers quickly!!
I hope Mollie recovers fast. It is so hard when our little ones get hurt. Luckily she is only 4 founds! Give her a gentle hug for me. I LOVE the material that you used for the tote. So pretty!
So sorry about your little Yorkie! I wish her well. Your new bag is darling! You have such talent for this. I think I would like a bag with heft, but I'm sure a thick fabric like that would be a challenge to work with. I sure admire your work!
Hi Rebecca, Prayers are activated for Miss Mollie and praying for you and your hubby. "Brody" sends his well wishes too! Keep us updated and be sure to give her lots of tender love! God Bless!
I am so sorry to hear about your little baby. Poor thing!
Your bag is beautiful. It makes me think of a bride...perfect to tote all those little extras to the church..or reception. I've been on a tote making kick lately, too. Only one all done but more in the works. xo Diana
Oh your poor little Mollie, what a brave little thing though to tackle that bad bad cat. I can so understand your anxiety, I am just the same when one of our dogs is unwell.
The bag is beautiful, you produced yet another wonderful treasure.

Oh my gosh that is terrible about your little doggie. I'm an animal lover and have always had dogs, but right now we have cats that adopted us. Will keep her in my prayers. Love the bag. Keep us posted on doggie. Hugs...Lu
What a lovely bag you made, think it is perfect out of the fabric you made, love the texture. Sorry about your poor baby...I would be so upset if that was one of mine.
