~SOME DAYS NEVER COME...Living Your Dreams~

 ~SUMMER 1959~
Mom & Me, Gramma, Linda & Great G

In the summer of 2008 my beautiful Grandmother spent an entire month with me here at my La Chaumiere de Briarwood.  It had been years and years since I'd been able to truly enjoy her company and having her here in my home for more than just a couple of days helped me reconnect with her in a very special way.
 ~SUMMER 2006~
Mom, Linda, Adrienne, Gramma & Me

My Grams and I had deep conversations about all sorts of things.  Because she had long been blinded by Glaucoma we spent many an afternoon either listening to books on tape or swapping out stories from my childhood.  She had always been a loving grandmother, quiet and calm by nature and never once did I ever hear her yell...  OK...maybe a couple of times~like when she was chasing my big sister Linda and I with the flyswatter for misbehavin' or it MIGHT have been most certainly was when I carved my name into her brand new coffee table when I was 8... :(.
~SUMMER 2008~
Miss K, Gramma, Me (with Mollie) and Adrienne

A few days before she was to return to California I sat next to her in my living room while my Mr. AGPMan snapped pictures and video taped us chatting away...  I snuggled up next to her and we laughed and laughed for the longest time.  I once again felt like I was ten years old.  Grams just had a way of making everything in life feel fine.

It was during that conversation, my last with her before her passing that following November, that I would ask her about her life's journey and if she had any regrets about the choices she had made along the way...

Even with her dark shades covering up her shuttered eyes I could tell she was gazing off into the distance.  She answered soft and low but with little emotion...that was her way.   Her response, like everything else she ever said to me, was pure and honest.
~AGING HANDS~
Gramma & Me - 2009

"I would never have used the word SOMEDAY " she said.

"SOMEDAY never comes!  It doesn't!!!  Life is short and you don't want to wake up and be 91 and blind and not be able to do all the things you put off while waiting for that SOMEDAY to arrive!"

~*~

I dreamed about my Grandmother last night.  I miss her more than I can tell you. Wanna know what she said to me during my slumber?

Can you guess?

"The clock is ticking, Becky!  Best be livin' out your SOMEDAY while you still have time!"

 Blessings...

lovely story and memories.

your coffee table carving reminds me of my six-year-old directing debut of a backyard production of Alice in Wonderland, in which I painted my mother's pedestal table like a huge mushroom for the caterpillar to sit on.

she chased me with more than a flyswatter, as I recall.

What a touching post about your grandmother and you! I know from your talks about her on your blog how special she was to you.
Loved the photos....what a lovely family you have, Rebecca...such generations of beautiful women!
And if they are all like YOU in generosity of spirit and loving ways, then what a Blessing God has given you.......
I loved my grandmother that way, too....she lived to be 84 years old and I used to love to spent time with her, too....I often wish
she were still here so my children
could know her, too.
Thanks for a walk down memory lane
today.....warm sweet hugs, Francy

Hi, Rebecca! I recently discovered your blog and just love it. You have inspired me to start back on some projects that have been in limbo for quite some time. I love this lovely mirror! I have one much like it that I want to redo. Concerning the Behr's Cottage White Paint--so you use latex, water base, or oil base paint?
Thanks so much.

To: Rebecca Who USE TO LIVE in the charming little town of Checotah... :)

I use regular latex paint. I actually LOVE the cottage white color. Good paint is good paint and if you want you can have the color "Cottage White" mixed at Lowe's using Valspar Signature Paint (also in latex). It's a common color and I like this paint equally as well! : Less $$$ too!

Happy painting! So glad you wrote!

Grandmas are so special. I had two wondeful grandmothers whom I miss soooo much. Your grandmother looks so sweet and such good advice I think many of us should listen to. I am always the conservative, what if, kind of person and wish I were more of the go ahead and do it kind!!!

What a wise grandmother you had. I once had my grandmother in my home for a time and I am so glad that I did. When I was a little girl, she taught me to sew and to crochet. How I treasure those memories and now that I am older, I hope I can take your grandmother's advice!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful Grandmother with us. There is such a special bond between a Grandmother and a Grandaughter, as you are now learning from a Nana's perspective!
