It's my GOOD EYES!

Yesterday morning I had my annual eye exam and my prescription for my new contacts is making me more than a bit irritable moody ticked off.
I'm such a baby!
Soooo HM (high maintenance)!

Anyway, I'm farsighted so no Lasik surgery for me.  Bahhh!  I expected some discomfort as my Doc said it could take up to a week to get use to the new lenses....

After leaving the vision center (and before my eyes glazed over!) I stopped off at one of my favorite OKCity Stores, THE FEATHERED NEST MARKET.  I love this shoppe!  It's full of neat junque and I can easily spend an hour or more inside just looking around! 

 ~WHITE-WORK LACE PILLOWS~

Since I'm still working on my new guestroom with it's "Cool Elegance" walls I thought I might find something that might just work.  I wasn't looking for anything particular...just looking in general.

I found a great tablecloth I can use for my business and I also spied a couple of large 24" white-work pillows.  Now...I make and sell pillows so for the most part I'm not interested in such things.  Still I couldn't help but flip the price tag over to view the asking price...

 ~FABULOUS FIND~

As I looked at the Tag(s) I thought surely my newly examined, slightly watery eyes were playing tricks on me.  Was that price right???  Are you kidding me???  No Way!

~MORE THAN WONDERFUL~

I couldn't believe it but those fluffy, cushy, brand new 24" jobbers were $15.75 a piece!  The stuffing/Polyfil would have cost that much even if I had tried to make them and that doesn't even include the fabric!!!   I picked up both the pillows, carried them to the counter, checked out and drove home...

(Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy.  Sunshine in my eyes can make me smile Buying sweet pillows on the cheap sure makes me smile...la la la la la...)

I think my new finds look lovely in front of the vintage pillows already on the bed!  I still have trim work to paint (ummm...I mean my hubbs does!), window treatments to sew and a couple of other odds and ends to finish up before the room is complete!  Looks like I'll meet my goal and be done with everything by Thanksgiving!

~ENJOYING PUMPKIN DAYS WITH FRIENDS~ GIVEAWAY, Too!

With my Mr. AGPMan being back in school we don't have much time right now to spend with our longtime  friends.  There are truly only a handful of things I struggle with now that our free time has been whittled down to the bare minimum.  But, not seeing our friends as often as we use to is one thing I really miss...especially now that life is slowing down a bit and Pumpkin Days are upon us.

My hubster is one-fourth of the way through school by the way and next year at this time we'll be celebrating his graduation!  He's doing great!  He was able to CLEP three classes and was given credit for nine additional hours based on life experience.

Anyway...last Sunday evening we had some of our best 'old' friends over for White Chicken Chili and Jalapeno Cornbread.  While I was busy cooking I had my guy snap a few pics of the table for me!  I didn't think about having him do it until after the sun went down and I also forgot to get the flatware out!  FAIL (That's what my Miss K says when I do something dumb silly)!  At least you'll get an idea of what our easy peasy table looked like!

Fall is definitely in the air! 

I love plates that look similar but don't match exactly!  I've had the wood Chargers you see for about 15 years now.  They were from Tarjay :) and use to be a dark hunter green but they haven't been that color in a long, long, long time!  I was once crazeeee about dark, dark green! Today, well, not so much!  Now the Chargers are Cottage White!

Imagine that!  Cottage White!

 I love how these metal leaf tea-light holders look!  Precious!

Simple centerpiece, too!  Usually this pretty metal pumpkin is on my coffee table but the white hydrangeas looked too springy so I moved them!

Now...I'm having serious problems with Blogger.  Are you?  Can't see any of the blogs I follow and for some reason there are about 30 comments on my latest giveaway I can't get to publish! :( :( :(  I'll keep trying.  In the meantime if you missed the POST I did on Saturday about the vintage Train Case GIVEAWAY I'm having I hope you'll check it out when you have time!  Sure to be fun!

~~~~THOUGHTS ON A SUNDAY MORNING~~~~ The Miracle of Silver Certificates

During my last two years in high school my preacher-man father was employed at a well known college in Colorado Springs.  As a collector and lover of old books both students and professors were always gifting him with things to read.  My dad lugged more dusty books home than I can tell you.  His office was filled to overflowing and his extensive library easily rivaled many a theologian.

 Just after I graduated from high school in 1976 my father was called to pastor a church in a small West Texas town.  Although the church was paying our moving expenses the money provided by the local congregation fell short of what was actually needed.

A lot short.

My dad's faith was and is amazing.  I remember him having serious financial concerns but he never once allowed negative thoughts to enter his mind about making the move.  When questioned about the details or asked about our family's future my father's answer was always the same...

 God called.  God will provide.  Let's pray.

And so he rented a big truck and we began to pack for a move to the Lone Star State.

Late one evening as were about to call it quits for the night a young neighbor boy who was helping fill boxes called out from inside our garage for my father to come.  As my dad exited the back of the truck he looked up as the boy began to speak.

"Mr. Elliott!  Mr. Elliott!  What do you and Mrs. Elliott want me to do with all this money?"

Standing silent and more than a bit overwhelmed, my dad simply said...

"What money, son?"

The boy's reply was high pitched and a bit frantic... 

"All the money falling out of these old books!"

With that hundreds of captive dollars were freed from their hiding place.

My Father and I - 1976

I don't remember exactly how much money was found that day, but it was more than enough for our family to move to Texas without worry...

Apparently upon the death of a very old professor several volumes of his aging books were gifted to my father by his children.  It is believed either the professor or his wife hid cash inside the books for safe keeping and then eventually forgot about it. The books were filled with Silver Certificate one dollar bills as well as fives, tens and twenties.

I've always believed if my father had been a man of wealth he would have loved sharing his fortune with his children.  Instead of millions he gifted each of us with a handful of 1957 Silver Certificate One Dollar Bills and a single 1963 Five Dollar Lincoln.

I'm not sure how I managed to save those bills all these years but I have.  Many, many times, especially early in my marriage, my Mr. AGPMan and I could have used those eight little bucks for some cheese, a loaf of bread or a piece of chicken...

Instead I vowed to keep the money as a simple reminder of God's goodness in my life.

He's been faithful...more than faithful.
