~FARMHOUSE CHIC HAMPER LINER~

~VINTAGE CLOTHES HAMPER~
Farmhouse Chic

One of the joys of owning vintage linens comes in making them part of my day to day life.  For more years than I can count I've collected old laces, trims and ribbons, but it wasn't until several years ago when I first started selling my wares on eBay that I realized so many of you out there love them, too!
~VINTAGE SHEETING LINED~
Crochet Lace Trimmed
At first it was a little difficult cutting into lace-edged pieces of old linen and cotton.  But...the thought of so much gorgeous handwork being relegated to an old dresser drawer or stored away in a plastic bag made me sad.  And so I decided a long time ago to at least try and give them new life.  With that I began fashioning bits and pieces of old lace into romantic keepsakes for the home.
~SWEET CROCHET LACES~
Vintage Sheet Edging

Last June my big sister Linda was visiting from Tennessee.  We had a wonderful time shopping and while out and about that day we snagged some great old finds.  If you'd like you can read that post HERE.
 ~DOUBLE FLOUNCE~

One of my favorite finds of the day was this vintage clothes hamper frame.  It was $1 and I was over-de-moon happy to bring it home.  I had great plans to immediately transform it, but like always I got busy with other things...  And so it sat and sat and sat for a long, long time~
 ~SWEET FABRIC TIES~

With our kitchen remodel on the horizon a new laundry room is also in the works.  I kept thinking about that neat old frame hanging in my storage shed out back and so a couple weeks ago I had my Mr. AGPMan clean it back up for me.  I'd actually painted it sometime back...
 ~PHOTO FROM LAST YEAR~

The frame was originally black but overall it was in wonderful vintage condition!
~ALL PAINTED UP~

She was pretty easy to line!  I measured all four sides and added 1/2" seam allowance and used these measurements for a template.  An old thick white sheet was used for the inside and underneath trim, and a large table doily for top trim.  The table-cover was heavily damaged in the center but the old crochet was in great condition.  I top stitched a band around the upper edge and made a casing for elastic.  To secure the lining to the frame I added fabric ties at the base.  The elastic easily keeps the liner in place. What I love most about it is that it can be washed.  I serged all the seems so no fear of unraveling!

Hi Rebecca~
saw your kind post and just had to respond! I too spent time in Southern Cali back in the 70's..but the sugary white sands of my native gulf coast stole my heart ages ago!
That is why I try to enlighten folks about the dangers of too much fun in the sun..My little problems have just started making appearances ..eons past those sun filled days..
I still enjoy my beach..now it is at early morning saluting sunrise..or late taking a sunset stroll..
warmest hugs..

Dearest Rebecca,

Thanks for your visit and comment. I too got sick from researching the disappearance of the followers and the recent comments. On top of it I have a hard drive problem and spent so much time dealing with HP. Still warranty till next year January so that is good. But it is such a waste of time and interference with our schedule. So let's hope that one day the Blogger gadgets will be back for us... In my Dashboard all followers are still listed by number but no widgets and no names, nothing to pull up...
Your laundry bin is so very pretty. You are a lace master!
Love to you,

Mariette

Hi Rebecca!
WOW! It looks maaaavalous daaaaling!
(I've been watching too many old movies) You did an incredible job with that liner. I just recently have been more courageous about cutting into old linens. But once you do you realize that that piece will live on in a new life, kind of born again. I would have snatched up that frame too... what a steal!
Great job Rebecca! I love it!

Big hugs, Sherry

This Laundry Hamper is simply the coolest! I would not have known what in the world it was if I had seen it when it was black. How wonderful to have such a lovely piece. Will you use it for dirty laundry? (It almost seems a shame!)

So very beautiful ! !
... When I was very young I let my hair grow very long. To the middle of my back... As the years passed this style made me look older than my years. I went to the salon one day & had it cut to my ear lobes in a more stylish way. While I looked much better it was hard to do.
Where am I going with this??
My story reminded me of the old linens that have outlived their beauty to become something different & even better!! JMO!!
Have a Wonderful Day!

Rebecca, after reading this post I am already so inspired that I will NEVER get to sleep now. I am going to take my old laundry cart cover apart and make myself a new one..and yes..paint the frame. It's the kind that rolls..but..IF I do this...it's not going out in that garage!
I...how can I put this...without sounding crazy. I come and visit your blog and actually catch my breath and get the urge to giggle with joy when I see the things you do. I've known you now for...before little Miss K was born..and am still in total AWE of your fantastic talent!
(not to mention your home!!) :)
Hugs and love,
Mona

Hi sweet friend, I love the hamper-so romantic! You have such an incredible eye. Thank you for your encouraging words about working out-ugh, getting older is tough. I can't believe you ever had 40 lbs to loose-way to go girl. I had lost a good 10 a year or two ago but it has come back. I've got to try to get it off again.

Now you are going to do the laundry room! Do you kids ever quit!! I love the laundry basket great find and a gorgeous redo!!

Rebecca Nelson said...

Yep...we are going to redo the laundry room. Our existing laundry NOOK isn't a room. More like a tiny space off our kitchen. We removed the exiting downstairs bathroom and laundry room (presently moved to the garage...the LR/not the bathroom!):) and that space will now be part of our kitchen. The makeover is being done in stages as each phase has to be done before the next. When you are a do-it-yourselfer you really have to plan! If I were a gajillionaire....I would hire..... :)
