~~~~~~~~PINK ADIRONDACK CHAIRS~~~~~~~ And What's That Up My Pants?
~SWEET PINK ADIRONDACK CHAIRS~
One of the things I promised myself I would do during the spring and summer months was to repaint my suffering Adirondack Chairs.  I blogged about this earlier in the year and had every intention of giving all three a fresh new coat of my favorite sugary pink paint!  Not sure just what it was that kept me from finishing this project...probably just unfocused.  Secretly I do believe I might have have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder).
Either that or I've got too many irons in the fire.
~VIEW FROM OUR NEW FRENCH DOORS~
Anyway, even with the incredible heat I managed to get up early enough over several days to get my repaint job done.  I love morning hours and would just love to go outside and sit for a spell and just read.  But...at 9AM today the temps here in Oklahoma were already 98 degrees.  It's suppose to be 112 today...
WHAT?
  ~THE PALEST OF PINKS~
I hate it!  I ran up to LOWE'S yesterday around 5PM and just breathing the HOT AIR made me feel sick.  While I was there I noticed all the plants and shrubs offered for sale were dying and marked to nearly nothing for quick sale.
~POORLY SURVIVING PLANTS~
Early each morning I take my Ferns and other flowering plants outside for a bit of real sun.  By noon each day I return them to our garage in hopes they will survive...
Around 7:30AM I was outside hand-watering (we're on water-ration here in Oklahoma!) when I felt something tickle my hip.  At first I thought it was just an itch or something until I felt it again a little higher up...
Totally trying NOT to FREAK OUT, I grabbed at my jean shorts for a little peek at just what was BOTHERING ME...
I peeled back my waistband just a tiny little bit and all of a sudden a big fat HUMONGOUS GRASS HOPPER flew right into my face.
Now...for all you earthy-peeps this was no doubt not a big deal.  But, I'm not one of you and I don't claim to be.  I'm a self-confessed wimp!  And, just for the record I'm not embarrassed to tell you I don't like:
Critters
Jumpy-Flying Things
Spiders
Ants
Beetles
Bugs
Crickets
Roly-Polys
Worms
Stingy Things
ETC...
or anything else that might threaten my life...
Hot or not, tomorrow I'm wearing long pants!
Hope your Tuesday is awesome!
Love to you...
Girl, I am so proud of you for getting those chairs painted in this heat! Isn't it just unbearable? Just trying to endure with a smile...indoors.
Oh I hate it when creepy crawly things get on me....Ick!
It is going to be 112 today...so I am staying inside. I am really surprised that they haven't put us on water rationing here in Kansas.
I hope you can save your ferns and pretty plants. I do not have a green thumb...at all. John adjusted our sprinkler system to run early every morning right now. We invested so much in our yard 4 years ago when we moved in, that we hate to have it just burn up!
Well, you have a great day...Rebecca!
Love, Linda
Ooh! I love the chairs in their new pink paint!
I understand those pesky grasshoppers are on the increase due to our lovely hot and dry weather. I could do without both of them! Wishing you a wonderful Tuesday, too!
You're so funny! My list is exactly like yours! I see no need for them! Well maybe the bees. I love to work in the garden but freak out at the site of anything! I just discussed this with my granddaughters the other day. I said they have no purpose other than to send me running in the house! Plus it does give my husband something to laugh about when I freak out!
Stay cool!
Only YOU would brave the terrible
heat to get your chairs painted!! They turned out yummy-wonderful looking...love them!! Your plants look good, too...your place is just so darn pretty!!!!
I laughed when I was reading about something crawling up your leg....luck it was not something
like a lizaed...we have plenty of them in Louisiana!!
You are THE best, Rebecca....
Love ya, Francy
That is so funny - but I am with you on the little (or big bugs). Right now we have huge black grass hoppers and when they fly it seems they head right towards me and my hair. The kids think it is funny to see Gigi running around screaming and shaking her hair like crazy. I endure these bugs when we have homeschooling science projects but I am just not into them.
Your chairs are so sweet - I don't think you can find a more comfortable chair than an adirondeck chair - the only problem I have is trying to get out of them.
Keep cool - the temps are awful up there but it is only in the low 90's here in the Florida Panhandle today - still too hot to do much outside except water the plants.
Take care and come over for a visit,
Brenda
Ewww...a grasshopped in your pants! I would have passed out. I know they won't hurt you, but they are not supposed to get into your clothes! :)
Your chairs look so pretty! Now I hope you're inside now with your tiny feet propped up and drinking some iced tea! :)
I would love for you to come to my linky party on Tuesday. I don't know if you have a Rooster or Chicken figurine but if you did, I know it would have on lace and flowers in it's feathers! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Oh Rebecca... you know me, I am such a Nature lover... with ONE exception! I HATE grasshoppers!... I am absolutely petrified of them... I cannot think of another thing in the world that I am afraid of, I would rather see a man with a gun at my door than a grasshopper, so I totally understand! On a happier note, I love your pink chairs!... I hope the heat lets up some so you can enjoy sitting out in them... love to you, xoxo Julie Marie
Rebecca,
Love the the pink chairs!! We are back down in the mid 80's and I am so happy. Much of my ankle swelling has gone down, heat aggravated it so!
I would have been screaming bloody murder. I have a garter snake now living in my little back yard and I am forever looking for it every time I am out there now!!
i am no lover of any of those creepy crawly critters!!
hugs,
Deb
Hey great job on the lounge chairs..we have been having icky heat too, I just stay in with the Air-con on..
Well...I consider myself to be fairly "earthy." BUT, if that ever happens to ME, I'd better be wearing Depends under my jean shorts...'cuz I'll need 'em!
The chairs a just beautiful...and your yard looks quite good, considering all the lovely weather you've been having!
Those chairs look so very pretty! Good for you for getting those done. I love your story, you need to be very careful, you dont want another injury. I am like a kid with bugs, I brought a praying mantis to my husband that I found outside. I put him back of course. The heat, I am not fond of. It is super hot here too. Take care, Hugs, Kim
It was only 114 here today! It's not the kind of weather you want to sit out in, is it? Glad you got your chairs painted and got the "grasshopper" out of your pants! I laughed at that! Forgive me, but it was sooooo funny and I can just see you hopping around to get it out! Hopefully the weather will get "cooler"!
Rebecca I am a viewer from NYC and my sis lives near OKC in Noble. I know how bad it has been. Prayers for all in your area!
Secondly, are you going to sew some scrumptious rose patterned lounger style cushions for those sweet chairs? I can see you doing that very project to make them comfy for you and Miss K to savor iced cool drinks and cookies or you and Mr. AGP Man with coffee and cake! :)
Rebecca I am so with you on creepy crawly things! YUCK!
And I love your light pink color on the deck chairs.
AND how nice to rescue some of those plants...
Oh the chairs turned out so fabulous Rebecca! That is the perfect shade of pink!
Gosh is has been so hot everywhere it seems- just saps the life right out of you and I feel so lazy at not getting things done! I think fall will be coming soon though and am certainly now looking forward to our winters!
So funny about the grasshopper! Should I tell you that hubby was given a bull snake and I took him out to our land in a bucket and released it - they are supposed to keep rattlesnakes away and have been wanting one out there since the bite incident 2 years ago. Bill didn't even want to take him out of the bucket- I know I am crazy!
Hi Rebecca
You caught my attention with the comment about your pants so I had to come and see what was going on.
We kind people catch spiders and bees in cups to release outside...:-) BUT there is a limit to things touching me too. And, getting into one's clothes - you would have heard me all the way to your place.
Years ago hubby was outside in the dark drinking beer from a bottle and every time he took a sip, something brushed his lip. He came inside and turned on the light and there was a big preying mantis sitting on the side of the bottle. I smile just to think about it still.
Pants are going to be mighty hot outside....
Hugs,
Judith
Oh Rebecca, Was that you? I thought I heard a loud scream over here in Texas. Now I know that must have been you when the grass hopper ran up your leg. LOL
Oh my gosh, I would be freakin out too. I am not a fan of jumpin or fast running critters. You should see how I scrambled when a lizard came into the house. Comical to say the least. LOL
Hope you are doing well in all this heat. My thermometer in my studio for the outside read 112 today. Fall hurry up!!
Love your light pink adirondacks!
Love to you, Celestina Marie
I have a gazillion grasshoppers, hate them, and would like to poison each and every one! Did you mention snakes? I try to stay away from them. So, the heat goes on and on, but today in Denver, it was mild and sprinkled a bit. Got home and the house was like an OVEN!! My plants wilt in the heat as fast as I do.♥♫
Lovin' your sweet chairs, Rebecca! They just scream YOU! lol! We've been having a blinger of a summer, haven't we? The heat is supposed to clear out of here tonight in Michigan, thank goodness. I wouldn't mind a grasshopper in my pants. Just don't let me see any bats in my bedroom!!!!!! Eeeeek! lol!
I detest bugs so much that I have an exterminator come to the house every month and spray inside and outside just to make sure they don't get me! I have nightmares about spiders, especially daddy-long-legs! Perhaps it stems from my childhood when my oh-so-fuuny brothers used to pull the legs off and throw them at me (still wriggling!) and then throw the centers at me! I'm getting goosebumps just typing this!!! And I've actually had grasshoppers down my shirt, in my hair, and up my pantleg, and those were not experiences I intend to relive!
Love everything you do, and your chairs are absolutely lovely. Of course, I would never sit in them unless I could be assured there were no bugs in the yard . . . hmmm--maybe if they were moved to a safe screened-in porch???
Love those chairs, and I can handle anything unless it has 8 legs. Actually we have an emu that likes our yard. I don't like it very much either. I really wish the neighbors would fix the fence it keeps getting out of. It really likes our fig tree in the front yard. I think I will have t do a post about it. Have a nice day!
You are really having quite a summer there in good old US of A arn't you. We aren't doing too badly ourselves it was 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) here today and we are just not equipt for it, no air conditioners! The sun and heat makes me so depressed!
I managed to follow your blog after quiet a few attempts, so I am happy now :)
They're scary aren't they? lol Girl, I can't wait for cooler weather. We are now on water restrictions cause of the drought. Scary stuff! I hope we get rain soon. Oops, i'm writing a book. It was soo good to see you leave a comment on my blog. Love it! May God bless you and your family.
The chairs are so pretty. I hope the plants live. It was 115 in Fort Smith Ark. Yesterday or day before and that is where my son is working. It was 108 here . He drives there everyday to work. I hate the thought of him having to work in this heat. But he loves it . He is interning for the Arkansas Highway transpotation Dept this summer. Hoping to get a job there after he grad. from college We will cross our fingers. Anyway I don't like critters getting on me either. If I don't know what it is crawling up my leg or in my hair I freak. LOL!!!
