~DAY BY DAY and Grace For The Storms In Life~

"Day by Day" was written by a young Swedish woman who learned early in life the all-important lesson of living each day to the fullest. From her pen flowed approximately 650 hymns.

At the age of 26, Karolina W. Sandell-Berg (1832-1903) had an experience that greatly influenced her life. While traveling with her father aboard a ship bound for Gothenburg, Sweden, the ship gave an unexpected lurch and Lina watched as her beloved father, a Minister, fell overboard and drowned before her eyes. Although she had written many beautiful hymns before her father's death, her lyrics began to show an even greater child-like trust in her Lord. Tender writings began to flow from her broken heart.

Can you even imagine watching someone you love drown? Especially so while out to sea, forever lost in a great ocean? I can barely allow myself to even go there... Still, I have a sense of peace today knowing that if God's Grace was enough for Miss Sandell-Berg, then it is enough for me...

~DAY BY DAY~

Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find, to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He Whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best—
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

Every day, the Lord Himself is near me
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me,
He Whose Name is Counselor and Power;
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
“As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,”
This the pledge to me He made.

Help me then in every tribulation
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E'er to take, as from a father’s hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till I reach the promised land.

Blessings as you trust in your Redeemer...

What a wonderful post for today. I always thought I had strong faith, but sometimes I realize I get so down when something hard happens for my children maybe my faith is not as strong as I think, or maybe it is just a testing. All of us, if you life long enough, will have tests of our faith. I just pray mine keeps on hanging on. Thanks for this meditative piece. Blessings

Rebecca, so glad to see you at Bella Vista...I have missed you and was wondering if I had done something wrong.....yep, I am way too sensitive.

I learned very early in life to lean on God. He is with me in every part of my day and I could not make it without Him....and I have a good life! He is everything to me.

Now, for all my goodies....yes, I am overflowing with them. I have always given away a lot of things and God just blesses my socks off with more!

I do hope you are staying warm.

With a grateful heart,
Barb ♥

This reminds me a little of the hymn, "It Is Well With My Soul" where a minister lost members of his family in an accident at sea.

Thanks, Rebecca, it's important for us to know these things about the great hynms of the church.

Sheila :-)

Thank you for you compliment towards my plate rack. The plate rack was one of two at Center Stage Antiques through ebay. The auction was for two, but I only had wall space for one. The seller agreed to my request to make an auction of just one...I do not know if he sold the other rack.

I love your dining room. You are so blessed to have an eye for beauty and a creative soul AND a husband who is able to to the heavy lifting.

Your granddaughters Valentine is precious...I know that she will have cherished memories of the time you spend with her. God's creation plan is so perfect concerning family:-)

Oh that is one of my favorites! My dear sweet friend who passed away in July at the age of 46 sang it to her children each day as she drove them to school. What a blessed song. xo rachel
