~MORE SHABBY COTTAGE CHIC MAKEOVERS - Fresh Life for Tired Finds~

 ~LOVELY VINTAGE CHEST~

A couple of weeks ago I shared with you some of the things my Mr. AGPMan and I hauled back from Tennessee.  Remember this POST from mid April? Part of the treasures we brought back to Oklahoma included the sweet vintage chest and the newer mirror you see above...

~NEWER MIRROR~
~VINTAGE CHEST~

Although they didn't actually 'go together', I loved how the two pieces looked  when 'married '! :)

You may not believe me but they actually called out to me and said...
"Rebecca~please take us home.  We've been sitting here in this nasty cold and lonely antique shoppe for sooo long now and have been waiting for many months years for our long deserved transformation!  Won't you PLEASE help us?  Won't you at least TRY to make us beautiful?"

Well now...what could I say and do?

They came home with me and LOTS of their friends, too! :) :) :)
~LOTS & LOTS OF THEIR FRIENDS~

Now...when I have furniture waiting for a transformation I can hardly wait to get started.  But...with the reopening of my website last week (I added some new pretties today!) I had to put off the much needed makeover(s).  At least this gave my guy a chance to get started on the MANY repairs that were needed.  Old stuff ALWAYS seems to need fixing...especially the drawers and runners of vintage chests and dressers...
~SHABBY COTTAGE CHIC~

I have a thing for tired, worn out stuff.  Even when an old find doesn't really qualify as a true antique, I believe nearly anything with good bones can be transformed.

VINTAGE RULES!

Take this old chest of drawers from the 1960's...
~FABULOUS WOODEN KNOBS~

Hiding inside this fairly decent looking solid wood piece was a multitude of damage.  Nearly every drawer was loose and the entire frame had to be clamped and glued.  Ugh!

Here she is with her totally pink, shabbilicious makeover...
~TAH-DAH~
~HAND PAINTED ROSES, TOO~

Now...I'm going to remind you again about ZINSSER Primer!

Give your furniture a couple of good (but not thick) coats of this amazing stuff before painting!  I use a sponge brush because when they get yucky I can toss them out.  I also love the Satin Finish on almost any house/interior latex paint (Behr at Home Depot is good and so is Signature Traditions at Lowe's).  Just remember to lightly sand in-between coats.  This will keep any nubbies down to a minimum and help to give your piece great coverage.  If you are going to distress your piece I recommend you wait at least two days for your paint to cure.  This will help to keep it from 'rolling' up and embedding itself into your sandpaper!

If you are local you can see these sweet old  pieces in my booth at The French Quarter Antique Shoppe located on Britton Road in Oklahoma City! :)  I'll also be uploading pictures of them on my website sometime tomorrow in case ANYONE wants to pay the enormous shipping costs to bring them to their doorstep! :)

Might me better to do what we did...plan a trip out here and pull a U-Haul Trailer back home!  Probably cheaper! :)

Blessings for a lovely day...

Dear Rebecca, I love the 'marriage' of the two pieces. I believe they were meant to be. I am sure it will be sold from The French Quater before you know it. Some one will be very lucky indeed!! Creativity at it's finest, Maureen.....

Hi Rebecca!
Getting back to you about the movie.
The Billy Graham Movie was at select Theaters about 2 years ago and I missed it. Daughter ordered it on NetFlix and received it through the mail. I want to watch it again...liked it. A very good and easy to watch film.
If you check out the net site for the movie you can watch some of the movie. Billy: The Early Years of Billy Graham

God bless,

Rebecca,
Your furniture is so beautiful. I love the mirror on this one! It really looks like it was meant to go together. I tried to go to your website but it would'nt let me. I've not been visiting many blogs for the last couple of weeks. I'm glad to be back among all of you. I've missed it. Can't wait to see your website.

Thank you so much for the sweet comments on my son Cole's singing. We are not sure what is going to happen with everything. He has his hopes up. I know that if this is what God wants for him, it will be.

Hugs,
Lee Laurie

You are definitly the queen of transformation,,Just beautiful, you Inspire me all the time. I inherited an antique dresser from my mother in law but it is the old brown stain, Its sitting in my garage calling out to me to give her a fresh pretty paint job, but my hubby cringes at the thought, but why let it sit under a tarp for 20 more years when Ill use it , if it is all prettied up? Im Just going to put it in my painting booth with the rest of my junkin stuff and PAINT IT. She wants to come in the house anyway :)
Wish I could come see your booth, but a bit of a drive from So.Calif. so Ill admire from afar
Thanks for sharing

Cynthia...Thank you for your comment! I tried to access your blog via your profile but it says it's not available! :(

About the furniture...

Nothing makes me more sad about old finds than to see them languishing alone, dusty and worn and covered up. We all have our own ideas of beauty and certainly not everyone loves painted finds. But...I'd much rather paint something old and worn out than let it stay unused and unloved for years and years. I think you are GOOD TO GO! Your hubbs will come around. I know it. Thanks for writing!

Hello Rebecca, I came upon your website and found the same 1960's dresser that I have and had as a little girl. I would like to redo it with a black distressed look to match a bedroom that I have redecorated. Will I need to primer it first? Don't want to use white primer when I am painting it black. Is there a a black primer that I could use in the place of the white? Thank you, in advance for a prompt response, Debbie
