~~~~VINTAGE SEPIA KEEPSAKE PILLOW~~~~ Remembering Mom With Love~
 ~FOR MY MOTHER~
If you've followed my little bloggie for any length of time now then you are sure to know how much I love creating pretty things from vintage finds...  Nearly every morning you'll find me working in my studio on something for someone. I'm ALWAYS excited impatient to see the outcome of what's being made!  To tell you the truth, sometimes I have no idea what the final results of my latest creation will be.  :)  No idea at all...
It's why I need peeps like you...I need to be inspired!
~AGING LACES & A SWEET OLD LOCKET~
Yesterday I showed you a sweet picture of my Grandfather and Great-Grandmother taken around 1909.  Can you imagine?  That was 101 years ago!  Somehow the tiny photo has survived for a century and still remains in tact.  The original picture is very, very small and even a tad bit shadowy and dark.  Still, I couldn't resist using it to fashion a special Mother's Day Gift for my Mother.  I'm hoping she will love it.
 ~VINTAGE BUTTONS & BLOOMS~
(Now...a couple of days ago I told her NOT to visit my blog for a few days and she better not!  If she does, trust me, I will know..."YOU AREN'T PEEKING, ARE YOU MOM????")
Now...I used my home printer and reproduced the photo onto a high thread-count cotton.  After positioning the picture in place I began to layer old laces and trim on top of one another in a random, no-frills order.  After adding a flirty ruffle and simple back, the Pillow was filled with poly fluff, a hint of pure French Lavender and hand stitched closed.  Old buttons were stitched in place before adding a cluster of vintage millinery flowers and crinkly rayon ribbon near the top.  The final touch was the aging brass locket dangling from the bouquet...
I'd love to hear how you are remembering the special women in your life...Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Daughter, Aunt, Cousin or Friend...
Blessings for beautiful weekend filled with fond memories of the women you deeply love...
PS: Tomorrow I'm joining Beverly at HOW SWEET THE SOUND for PINK SATURDAY! My first one...should be fun!
Hello dear Rebecca... the pillow for your mama is just stunning! What a beautiful treasure you have created for such a special lady... and I know every little stitch is filled with your love for her... since my mama is gone now, and my guardian angel, I plant a special rose for her on Mother's Day, as roses were (are) her very favorite flower... I am heading out to my favorite garden center now to pick one out... I also plant special flowers for my grandmothers... Delphiniums for my Grandma Delphine and Myrtle (vinca) for my Grandma Myrtle... For my sweet sister who passed away, I plant lobelia, her favorite... and for my sweet Great~grandmother Sara I always plants Cosmos... her cottage garden was always full of them so many years ago... these ladies made me who I am today, so I will celebrate all of their lives on Mother's Day especially... I am sending many warm, happy wishes to you for a most beautiful Mother's Day, and please send my wishes to your mama as well... love to you...xoxo Julie Marie
My beloved mother has been gone a long time. I did handpainted cards for all 4 of my daughters and 2 DIL. Our youngest daughter is not a mother but is director of a family homeless shelter and she does mothering things all day, so I send her a mother's day card. Such a beautiful post. Blessings Rebecca
That is gorgeous and how sweet is that picture? Oh I know your Mother will be so pleased. It is a stunning creation sweetie! I plan on planting a Pink Sweetie Rose in the garden in memory of the Mother I lost last July. This is my first Mother's Day without her. I painted a clay pot cream and let my 20 month old grandson put his hand in paint and pressed his handprints all along the side of the pot for his giftie to his sweet Mommy. I only had a small issue of explaining why he had purple nail polish on!!! lol You have a blessed Mother's Day! Big hugs Beth
I love that plants flowers in memory of those special women in her life. OMgosh, that is special. My mama loved pink roses. I think that is why I have many pink roses in my garden.
Rebecca, this is an absolutely GORGEOUS pillow. It is stunning, and she is going to love it!
My mother is in Heaven, but my MIL is still with us. I always send her a huge box of flowers, and then she has fun arranging them all over her house. She adores flowers. I think we are the only ones in the family to send them to her so she eagerly looks forward to it. We live away from home so we have to send our love across the miles.
I used to love to sneak in and surprise my mother for Mother's Day or her birthday. I would spend the night with other family members to surprise them. LOL!
XO,
Sheila :-)
your pillow is soooo lovely...your mother will be so happy to recieve it. My son,wife,Hattie (GD),MIL,and DIL mother are all going out to eat on Mothers day. I lost both my parents in 84 when I was 38yrs.It was so horrible..they were such wonderful parents. I do miss them both still..but I was so fortunate not to loose them as a child..I always can look around and see someone or something alot worse off than me. I will think of my mother on that day as I always think of her everyday...Happy Mothers day to you..sally
I'm sure your mother will love it - mine would!
I'm so bad about gifts for greeting card company holidays. I send my mother flowers and chocolates. At this point of her life, if she wants it, she has it. If shes doesn't have it, she doesn't want it LOL.
Happy Mother's Day to you!
Hi Rebecca, I love the sweet pillow you made for your mother. I'm sure she will treasure if for years to come. Rebecca, I KNOW SHE WILL LOVE THIS! She is one lucky lady to have you for a daughter. I met 3 gals from Oklahoma City at the Art Event I just went to & can't wait to come up to see YOU (we'll plan it better this time) & to see them too. Hubby is not working up there as much now that his season is slowing down but, I still want to come up to meet you & see your shop. I bought 2 books on ribbon embroidery last week. My friend Pat does wonderful work like you do & I can't wait to learn. Happy Mothers Day.
Rebecca, the pillow you made for your mother is just gorgeous. What a wonderful idea! I love your blog and webpage. I just got back from Branson and couldn't wait to get online to see what you had been up to while I was gone. I am painting a bedroom suite for my grandaughter and want to know what kind of latex paint you use...glossy, satin, or flat? Also what kind of paint do you use on the hardware--spray or the same you put on the wood? I don't think I will be able to find a spray paint to go with the latex paint. Thanks a lot....so glad you had a wonderful Mother's Day.
Blessings,
Rebecca from Henryetta
P. S. I adore the satchet hanger! And thanks for the beautiful card.
