~FALL DECOR in the SHABBY COTTAGE CHIC HOME~

~GREAT ROSS FIND~

Just like many of you I love the Autumn time of the year.  I'm a native Cali-Girl and I suppose I will NEVAH get use to the humidity and sweltering heat we often experience in middle America!  Because I live in Oklahoma where the Summer Sun can get blistering hot (104 degrees in my town last Sunday) it is always a welcomed relief when the August temps decide to linger for a bit in the low 80's.  By the time the leaves on the trees change from their vivid greens to a soft golden yellow I find I am more than ready for Fall to begin.
(You can visit me...but I'm SOLD)

I love to decorate the outside of my home during Pumpkin Days!  With the addition of our new black shutters (they are all up and look fabulous..more about this soon) I'm finding I'm more anxious than ever to get started!  The sweet metal Pumpkin you see at the top was snagged a couple of days ago at Ross for $9.99!  What a deal!  Once my Fall decor is in place I leave it up until it's time to change things around for Christmas.

Because the inside of my home includes a palate of mostly muted whites, creams and soft florals I do seem to struggle a bit to successfully incorporate touches of fall color into the mix.  I love changing things up and making the different Seasons of the year feel special...but orange, rust, black and deep sage greens just don't seem to work for me.
~GREAT FABRIC FIND~

So...as I worked on pretties for both my home and my A Gathering Place Website I decided to scale back some of the coloring on my more traditional Fall and Harvest Pillows. I've concentrated this week on designing a few I think will blend beautifully into my own personal decor and I'm hoping you will like them, too!  Both pillows you see above will be on my website later today!
~SUPER SALE - $4.50 Per Yard~
(Originally $29.90yd)

When my Mr. AGPMan and I began to change things around on the inside our home about a year ago I moved what was once my formal living room furniture into my den.  Truthfully I hated how it looked because the sofa, though a gorgeous Henrydon auction win, was way too dark (burgundy & soft brown)for the space.
 ~Original Sofa Fabric~

Earlier this month I snagged nearly a full bolt of fabric for my sofa makeover at a drastically reduced price at my friendly neighborhood Hancock's (gotta love their mill-ends!)...  As soon as I get my two accent chairs back from the upholsterer the sofa will be dropped off for her re-do!  I'm so excited!
 ~MESSY!  MESSY!~

Now...just in case you all might mistakenly THINK I am totally disciplined and work in an immaculate studio I've decided to share with you a few TINY snapshots of what can quickly turn into a completely disorganized, junked up, out of control workroom if I'm not careful! :)
~SO MUCH WORSE THAN THIS~
~STUFF IS EVERYWHERE~

After I finish up the Fall pillows I'm currently working on I just MUST take some time out to clean up my space.  Otherwise I fear I will surely lose my sanity.  I don't do well with chaos and absolutely cannot create a thing when I can't see the floor (you think I'm kidding and I'm NOT!).

Hope you are having a wonderful week!

Blessings and love to you~

Hi Rebecca, I love your pumpkin. It's so cute.I've already started to get my pumpkins out!! I have the same problem with all the gorgeous orange pumpkins. They just don't seem to look right with all the whites. But i love them! We have to think of something...Kathy

With a hubby that is a trucker & living in the northeast I try not to decorate for Fall too soon. He never says but I think it reminds him of the struggle his life becomes with the ice & snow.
......... BUT........
I am beginning to look fondly at my boxes of Fall decor!
......Shhhhh..... Don't tell my Hubby!! LOL!! LOL!!
Love your pillows!!
Have a Great Day!
Love,

Chaos and I go hand in hand. I think that comes from being a floral designer and constantly working in a mess. I also have to stand up when I work, no sitting for me unless I am at the machine. I love the fall season and all it's colors. This is the palete I am most comfortable in....homey and rich. I can't wait for the fall season and sadly, it begins very late here. We don't normally drop in temps until the first part of Oct. We also find ourselves in shorts around the Thanksgiving table. So sad I know.....By the time the leaves change to a golden hue here, it's already Dec!! No time to "get in the mood."
I know 104 degrees is hot, but we average around 115 or higher during the summer months. My son once said, "once it hits 105, who cares, hot is hot" and he was right. The best of the desert is on it's way tho, we have the rest of the year to play in the garden and be outside.
I am pushing fall in my home this year. I am so ready for a change. Your pillows are a delight and I love the fabric choices Rebecca. As always, you pulled magic out of your lovely hands and created something very beautiful. Be well and be patient, cooler temps are coming for us all, Char

Nope, sugar, no rust, orange or fall colors in this house. Just do NOT work well for me plus orange is my least favorite color. I have ONE Liz Claiborne blouse with some orange in it and it's beautiful but that's about it.

I love Home Fabrics for this bolts of fantastic fabrics also, chickee. Check them out.

Connie

HI, REBECCA...SINCE THE PAINT COLOR OF YOUR HOUSE IS not PINK, BUT A BEIGE!! YOU COULD USE WHITE PUMPKINS OUTSIDE AND THEY WOULD LOOK LOVELY, INSTEAD OF ORANGE (I USE THEM INSIDE, TOO, WITH MY PASTEL COLORS)..WITH THE BLACK SHUTTERS THIS WOULD BE GREAT....
HEY,,,,ME TELLING YOU HOW TO DECORATE??? CRAZY ME...
I LOVE YOUR NEW PILLOWS AND THE METAL PUMPKIN...YOU ALWAYS HAVE THE NEATEST THINGS!!
WE HOPE HERE IN CENTRAL LOUISIANA
THAT IT IS COOL BY THANKSGIVING!! LAST YEAR WE HAD A FREAK SNOW
FALL THEN!!!! THE HOT WEATHER HAS TAKEN A TOLL ON THE PLANTS, GRASS,
AND US!!! COOLER WEATHER CAN'T COME TOO SOON!
BE SURE TO POST PICTURES WHEN YOUR DECORATIONS ARE UP!

Hey Rebecca!

I love the Fall weather that is coming too! Unfortunately, we have a short Fall and then Winter is upon us in Wisconsin. Ugh...Old Man Winter is not my favorite at all!

I love the softer colors of Fall too..and last year used some white and green pumpkins...but I also like the traditional ones...and corn shalks turned golden...and the leaves that turn their spectacular colors.

I love the pumpkin but don't know what Ross is-we don't have them here...kind of like a Michaels maybe?

Your little pillow is absolutely darling and I am a lot like you-I create a lot of chaos when I work...but I don't work well IN chaos! lol When the kids are here I am surrounded by chaos but have finally learned to not clean up AS there are here but AFTER they go (to bed or home).

Thanks for sharing your "mess" with us-you are a brave girl;>) Diana

Have a great day.

Nancy

The *mess* in your studio doesn't look bad to me ~ seems to be very *organized chaos*! All pretty things, too!

I love your pumpkin... it certainly is cottage-y! Your pillows as always are gorgeous and now that I see the cream against the black and orange, I'm having a fondness for it! Well done. Are you making a sofa cover or literally upholstering it? Big task either way but I'm sure it will be well worth it. We Just got a couch on the cheap for a good brand. It's rust (ew) and is in need of a cover. For now, we throw the dog quilts on her so they can be easily removed for laundering. Don't you know it's for them after all... sheesh! Hugs. Tammy

I meant to ask, what type of fabric is that? :)

OH - I think you need to be a little more specific about your mess and SHOW US PICTURES! (hehehe)

I don't think I know anyone who works in a perfectly clean environment. I can't imagine ever doing so - it just never happens to always be clean. Maybe picked up - but when you have projects going on - stuff just lays around and gets worked on as it can. Sheesh - you should see mine right now!! Holy moly!

I think you can get away with lots more neutral colors for fall now than you used to be able to. Lots of whites and off-whites. I am so not an orange person either - but for Fall - it just has always been.
Can't wait to see what you have in store.

Have a wonderful weekend my Friend!

Hugs! Karen

Hello Rebecca! Thanks for stopping by the other day and leaving the sweet comment and thankfully I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, LOL! I too love fall but here in sunny California we're just beginning to heat up. It's been up to 99 degrees with high humidity & thunder heads...YUK!!! I don't know how you all survive in the Midwest ;-).
Oh! Your pillows are ever so darling and perfect for Autumn!!!

The pillows are so pretty...., but everything you make is pretty!

Your mess doesn't look like much of a mess to me, but I know what you mean about needing to get things cleaned up and organized before starting another project.

Hi Rebecca! I love your autumn pillows - So soft and lovely...

Your creativity is so amazing!

I smiled when you wrote of your "sewing mess" My sewing room goes to pieces while I'm working on projects. It's just easier to let it go -but yes, then it's time to clean!
happy weekend to you! ~Maria

Oh, man-I believe when you say you can't see your floor...maybe it's with my floor in the land of mess.
I have such a hard time changing seasons in the middle of a heat wave...plus, August just does not say "fall" to me. I wish it would. I could be more on top of the holidays!!!!

Your pillows are absolutely gorgeous. They have just the right touch of fall. I love the browns you've incorporated, too. We've had a couple of weeks of triple digits in SoCal...I know you remember what that's like. I'm so wishing fall right about now. What a beautiful "mess" you've got going there. Blessings, Patty

The pumpkin sign is gorgeous.. and your pillows awesome.. In Dubai we dont have much of a choice.. its like summer all year long.. So when it gets slightly cooler from about Oct to Feb.. is our BBQ and outdoor time.. Hence we love winters.. But when I say.. winter. I meant it gets as cool as about 24C.. thats all!! :-)

Oh Rebecca...
I'm so lookin forward to autumn too.. I love the smell of apples and pumpkin spice candles burning..
The sweet crisp and lil bit chilly air wisping thru the trees.. of course all those colorful leaves on the trees.. I'm too am looking forward to cooler days its been quite hot here at the jersey shore.. One of the hottest and humid summers ever (at least that I can remember)... Your find at Ross is "cute as a button" .. I find it also hard to incorporate the fall colors in my decor so I just put out some touches here and there not really over doing it.. Its quite alot of work but I do box up alot of things to put out my fall stuff.. I just wanted to comment on your darlin pillows I'm sooo in love with them.
So happy fall decorating and please share pictures..
Tootles for now:)

Hi Rebecca
Made it home finally. This is a wonderful post.....anyways I dug out the Laura Ashley fabric and I have 9 1/2 yards of it! A part of me can't stand the idea of parting with it but the (this stuff has got to go) side of me is saying SALE IT! So I searched on ebay for the same fabric and found 30 yards for $810! Believe me I will not charge that much. If you want it all for $12 a yard it is yours. We will include shipping later. Anyways hope you are having a peaceful Sunday.
blessings
