~SHABBY COTTAGE CHIC CHAIR SKIRT MAKEOVER REVEAL~

~SWEET LINEN CHAIR COVER~
(left click pics to enlarge and copy)

Oh my goodness!  Doing Tutorials of ANY KIND is work!  I might not be doing another one for a long time! :) (**WINK**)   If you missed the first several steps of my HOW-TO Tutorial you can check my previous three posts or click Here and Here and Here!  The links will whisk you away and catch you up to where I am beginning today!
~BEFORE SHOT~

I'm sooo happy to share with you the big reveal of my Chair Makeover!  Today I will wrap up my Shabby Cottage Chair Tutorial by showing you the Linen Chair Cover I made using deeply discounted linen fabric from our neighborhood Hancock's!  I hope you enjoyed seeing how I chose to makeover the six 1992 Kincaid Chairs I've had in my home for the past 18 years.  It was certainly TIME for a change!
 ~SOFT and SWEET~

I saved the old chair cover and used it as a rough pattern.  This gave me the approximate size I would need to make the flounce for the chair.  I simply measured and trimmed the old cover adding enough seam allowance to provide a good drop on all three sides of the chair.  Then I determined the length of the ruffle and how long I wanted the ties to be.
~BUTTON-ON BACK PANEL~

Figuring out how I wanted the front and sides of the chair cover to look was easy.  I just went to GOOGLE (Images) and typed in "Cottage Chair Cover" and lots and lots of sweet pictures came up.  But...I didn't find even ONE that had the center back support!  I really had to wrap my brain around just WHAT could be done because I WANTED a ruffle along the back side as well!
~CLOSE-UP of BACK~

After much thought I decided to make the back portion of the flounce removable.  I simply added tabs to the back sides of the cover and sewed them in place.  Buttons were then added to the tabs and button holes were made in the removable piece.
~ANOTHER VIEW~

Ties (28" each)  were then sewn in place.  One to the top edge of the back panel/flounce (see photo above) and on each side of the chair cover (see photos below).
~SINGLE LAYER TIES~
~VINTAGE BUTTONS~
(Yummo!)
~GENTLY PLEATED CORNERS~
~VINTAGE LACE PILLOW~
(One of my favs!)

The one thing I LOVE most about working with linen is that once it's been washed it will take on an even drappier (is that a word???), softer look and feel.  I did go back and serge all my seams so there won't be any unraveling of fabric once the flouncy cover is washed!

I did a little bit of research and I found similar linen chair covers are costly.  One I found was $68 and for a name brand, fairly simple chair and cover it was priced at almost $500.  Too steep for my budget!
~WHAT TO CHOOSE?~

Now...I told you earlier that I found my fabric at Hancock's.  It was originally $9.99 per yard (fairly decent price for Linen).  Since it was on the clearance table it was marked down even further to $4.99 (it was half-off).  But...I just happened to go in on a day when deeper discounts were given and I snagged 11 yards for $3.00 per yard (56" wide).  Each chair took about 1 1/3 yards of fabric to complete!  What a deal!

If you have any questions or need more information about painting out your furniture or help with your own Shabby Cottage Chic Chair Cover Project just email me!  OK?

DON'T FORGET MY GIVEAWAY ENDS AT MIDNIGHT!  CHECK IT OUT ON MY TOP LEFT SIDEBAR or click the link above!  SOMEBODY IS GOING TO WIN...MIGHT AS WELL BE YOU, RIGHT???

Good Morning Rebecca!

Your blog is as beautiful as ever... I think I stumbled upon your blog early in my searching around... It amazes me how creative you are and how you can take something simple and make it into a dream!
The chairs are gorgeous... the work you did on the seat covers showcases the talent you have for sewing and for creativity. The way you were able to get the ruffle all the way around is so nicely done.

Hi Rebecca,
Oh I love your chair seat cover. What a beautiful finish to an amazing chair redesign.

You are simply amazing my friend and always so inspiring. Just love this makeover. Of course being a chair collector, I have re-done a few myself, and although work, it is so worth it.

So enjoyed my visit this morning. I am back from vacation and trying to get around to everyone and visit. After a few days back, I got really sick with a kidney infection. Maybe it is sympathy pains for dear Julie. Today I am doing better after a trip to the doc and antibiotics. It is nothing compared to Julie's surgery and I am in constant prayer for her.

Have a great day dear one and happy creating. Stay cool too.
Another heat advisory for us today with temps 105. Fall hurry up!!

Love you, Celestina Marie
