MY FRENCH FARMHOUSE BOOTH IN OKLAHOMA

Here are the latest pictures of my Booth located inside Serendipity Market in Edmond, Oklahoma!  They were taken a few days ago and some of the things you see have already sold!  I'm always happy when big pieces sell...
Things are always changing and evolving around here!
Nothing stays the same for very long when you run a retail business!
I still love having my booth and I'm entertaining the thought of leasing a second one on the other side of Oklahoma City.
I still have some healing up to do before I make a final decision...but I'm excited about the possibility of expanding my business.

I'm asked every once in awhile about loving pink roses and IF I still paint them.  The answer is YES...I still love them and I still paint them too!  But, they just aren't big sellers here in Oklahoma so I rarely offer them up unless it's for a special order.

My Mr. AGP Man and I are off again to JUNK!  It's our Saturday ritual!

Blessings~

LOST and FOUND

Today I'm going to tell you a story about loss.

Over the past couple of weeks I've thought a lot about what I was going to share with you after unveiling the photos of our kitchen renovation.  There hasn't been much over the past year or so that has equaled the excitement we felt as we finished that enormous project.

Thank you for the kind comments and emails...I remember all of you.  I feel like I've returned once again to the company of an old friend.   I've been away from HOME for a long, long time.

I'm a fairly passionate person...but if you've read my postings over the past several years then you already know that.  You also know I love my family and my Mr. AGP Man, my La Chaumière de Briarwood (that's my home, remember?), my little Yorkie dog named Mollie (who is now 13 1/2 years old), old lace, tag sales...and well, just creating.

It's in my blood.
Has been for as far back as I can remember.
A couple of years ago I fashioned several vintage style Tote Bags and offered them up for sale.  I sold a couple of the larger ones on Etsy and several of the smaller ones on my website.  The one remaining Bag, a smaller one, I showcased in my local booth.  I had it draped over a mannequin and if you look at the center photo in my header you can see how I had it displayed.

The Tote Bag wasn't very large...but it spurred a great deal of conversation among the shoppers who stopped into my booth.  Unlike my website I don't offer a lot of  handmade lace-based items to customers.  Those types of things sell OK for me locally...but, unless you know firsthand the cost of old trims and lace it's easy to misunderstand the the reasoning behind the asking price of an item.
To some people, lace is lace.
To the keen or trained eye the great vintage stuff can readily be identified.  And it's often costly.

Three weeks ago I was in my booth chatting with a very nice customer (who is now also a friend) when she commented that she was happy to see the Tote Bag had sold.  Immediate panic set in because I knew it wasn't on my sold items report from the store.  From that very moment I knew it my heart it had been shoplifted stolen ripped-off!  I tried to make small-talk with my friend, but my mind was racing.  After she left I did a fairly quick, but detailed, look around the entire store and proved my first suspicion...

The pretty vintage lace Tote Bag, the one that took me hours to create, was gone.
Now...I guess it's important to tell you here that I am very aware that part of selling in retail means accepting the fact there will be loss.  I've had small things taken over the years and I suppose if you add up the value of all of them together the final tally would be fairly substantial.  Years ago when I was in retail management I caught many, many MANY people stealing from the store.  The loss came primarily from young boys who were fascinated with early gaming cards (like Yugioh).  But, we also busted middle-aged women for lifting greeting cards (yeah, I know!) and tiny little stuff that honestly made no sense to me.  By far though, the most difficult loss to swallow was when it came from my employees.  I better understand today the mindset of most shoplifters.  Generally it's isn't about need...it's about the thrill of taking something you don't have to pay for, getting away with a crime, or the false belief you are owed something.

Anyway...back to the missing Tote.

The store has security cameras and I have a couple of great ones pointing directly into my booth.  The eye-in-the-sky rarely disappoints...and we are dealing with it.

It's taken me a few weeks to get over accept this personal loss.  No...my house didn't burn down, my car wasn't stolen and no one I love was hurt. My body wasn't violated.

But, my heart was.
Anger absolutely engulfed me and every time I thought about the work that went into making that petite little bag I was left feeling sick.  Honestly...I make things by hand because I love to create...the money I earn, although needed and appreciated, is not what drives me.  The actual hourly profit is so incredibly low (especially when making soft-goods) I've sometimes wondered over the years why I've continued.

When terrible things happen to us, whether it be something TRULY tragic or something fairly minor, our hearts ache.
Mine aches for fairness...justness...but mostly for healing.

Like I said...I've been pretty angry.
This morning I picked up a piece of aging lace from an ever growing pile of vintage finds in order to begin again.  I wondered for a moment from whence all the laces, trims and bits of fabric came.  Were they fashioned by hard working hands? And how on earth did they find their way to me?  Most were discovered nestled amidst boxes filled with hoarded mementos, gathered or created over decades by the women who have gone before me.
Years of collecting led me to them.

I suppose, not unlike the beauty found in the scraps of lace used to create my offerings, I've always believed it's possible for God to take the tiniest of scraps and unworthy pieces of my life and create something lovely from them if only I would allow Him to do so.

And so, I did what I always do when discouraged and broken.  I returned to the embrace of the Master-Creator of EVERYTHING to trust Him to straighten the narrowed path I've found myself traveling upon...to make right again my journey... to soften my anger, quiet my spirit and restore my floundering faith in others.

Someday, somewhere, I hope my lost Tote Bag will find it's way to a worthy person's hands...and in turn inspire them to continue on as I am continuing on...

To go where they are led.

Serve where they are called.

And once again be found.

Love to you...

~A SWEET VINTAGE WHITE BED~

Good morning all...

I've been a busy lady of late and so glad I've gotten off the merry-go-round of life for a bit.  Returned from a whirlwind trip to Tennessee a week ago where my Mr. AGP Man and I helped my big sister with an estate sale.  She sold off tons and tons of her personal property (downsizing to a small home) and also the remaining merchandise left over from her vintage home decor and apparel business.  I've never seen so much stuff in my life and my guy and I are beyond happy the trip (and the work) are over.

Came home with some wonderful things to sell in my booth, some fabulous old finds, vintage lace pieces, lamps, furniture and also that fabulous antique counter my hubby will be transforming into our new kitchen island.  It's going to take some work to refurbish so I won't be sharing it for a while.  But...hopefully before Christmas...

The bed in the photo above (my local booth) is one I hauled home from the estate sale.  Originally my sis had it painted black.  I actually liked it black, but...I'm still loving vintage whites and all things tattered and worn and those things still sell well for me here.  So...white with a bit of glaze won out!  I snapped the picture late last night, but I'm sure missing the natural light that usually comes through the windows...

Hope this finds you well...  Maybe one day I'll get back to blogging more regularly.  Right now I'm excited about starting Christmas Stockings for 2015.  Tattered vintage and antique laces and lots of linen and trims.  Yum!

Love to you~

~Miss Autumn and her Paper Pattern Skirt~

I love love love the Harvest time of the year and I'm so happy it's around the corner.  It was time to spruce up my booth today and so I spent the evening working on new displays and removing some of the old and bringing in some new...  I always love the changing of the seasons and I start out trying something new if at all possible...

Just a quick post about my little mannequin.  I dressed her in a skirt made of old paper patterns with lots of layers and ruffles.  I used a crocheted doily for a collar and burlap as a modified vest.  Vintage silk ribbon was used for her waistband.  It was tattered and worn and simply fabulous.  The original paper wrapping for the ribbon was used to fashion her Miss Autumn banner.

She was so much fun to make and I think she'll be a real conversation piece.

This next week I travel to Tennessee to help my sister with her estate sale.  She closed her shop and they are downsizing and selling their home.  Big job ahead...

We are bringing the vintage counter from the late 1800's back with us...  Remember I told you we are modifying it for our kitchen island.  By the way...our wood flooring goes in this weekend.  The last of the projects before the kitchen is completely finished except for the island.  We are beyond excited.  The nightmare is finally almost OVAHHHHH and we are both actually still ALIVE.

Will share more will you soon.  Can't wait to show you the big reveal!

Love to you...

~ONLINE SELLING vs. MY LOCAL BOOTH~

It's Friday and I"m so glad!  I've had a super busy week setting my Booth for Christmas and also filled in a couple of days at the Shoppe.  Still love the creative side of my world and the entire process of bringing to life the things that live inside my head.  Just never have enough time to make, create or change up all the things I'm passionate about!

Having a Booth is so much different than selling online.  Trust me when I tell you the things that sell on my website don't always move in my Booth.  Maybe it's a regional thing, but I kid you not...it's waaaay different!  Forget trying to sell something pink locally...unless it's some rare and costly pink rose teacup destined for a collector or a custom order, the color does not move.  Period.  Although there are still tons of pink-lovers out there (and boy if you love pink YOU LOVE PINK!), I've moved away from working with it for the most part.  I still do special orders...but generally I stick with neutrals.  And for me, anything more costly...like things fashioned with vintage laces, trims, etc., well, forget it.  Those things are best sold online as you can better target the customer who is actually looking for those things (Pillows, Christmas Stockings, Sachets, etc.)...
The Suitcases you see above are new!  They were both purchased at a local store for only a few dollars and transformed with paint and transfer techniques.  I forgot to take a before picture (ARGH!), but I found them at a local discount store and they were originally black polka dot with a French/Paris design.

They were cute enough...but, I wanted to turn them into something vintage looking and useable in the farmhouse style home.  So, after spray painting the inside with metallic gold (easy cover up for all the color going on and I love how the original design comes through) I painted the exteriors with acrylic paint and stamped them with two of my favorite vintage French graphics!  They are great display pieces in my booth and pretty inexpensive to create!
Here's a shot of my Booth taken a few days ago....can't believe it's time to ready the store for the Holidays.  Wow!  This has been a fast-paced year for me.  How about you?

Things are always changing and after the first of the year I'm going to add some new elements...not sure yet just what I'm going to do, but something!
Oh...and just in case you think I've totally abandoned all I once did...here are a couple of pictures of two Christmas Stockings I just recently uploaded to my website (both are sold).
 One in whites and creams...
And one in pink.  This one was purchased by new Nana for her sweet baby grand-girl!

Hope you are excited about the holidays like I am...

Blessings...

~A FABULOUS CABINET MADE FROM JUNK~

About a week ago I found a rickety old piece of junk (Really!  Just a piece of junk...not junque!) at Goodwill for $15.  A huge cabinet style thingy (think TV cabinet) that was full of great wood...but honestly, a crummy find that was more than UGLEEEEE.  My Mr. AGPMan met me at the thrift, picked up the cabinet and hauled it home to his work shop.  Somehow he was able to salvage all the materials as I'm always needing odd sizes and cuts of wood in my business.  Plus the asking price was great!  The result is the bead-board display cabinet you see above.  All made with the reclaimed wood from the piece of Goodwill junk.  Took a while to dismantle the thing and pulling out all the old nails and hardware was a pain!  But, seeing what my guy was able to create from a pile of landfill destined debris makes my heart sing!

Just recently I started carrying a line of soy candles in my Booth called MIXTURE.  I love them because they are simple in style and come without labels, etc.  Finding a place to display them was a bit of a challenge because they are narrow (cylinder) and only about 4" tall.  The new cabinet was created with them in mind.  The perfectly spaced shelves are removable and makes them wonderful for showcasing other things as well.

I love being married to such a talented and creative man.

Don't you just love the photo of the two little girls above?  Wish I knew more about it.  Whenever I see it I just can't help but smile.

I imagine them as friends for life.

Through thick and thin...

Good and bad.

Happy and sad.

Plenty or want.

Blessings as you make your way through November with those you love.

~FRESH NEW WHITES FOR YOU~

Dear Friends...

I hope 2014 brings to you good things...only good things.  After some trying twists and turns in 2013 we are truly looking forward to a wonderful New Year!

After returning from Nebraska (where we celebrated my father-in-love's life) we welcomed my big sister and her hubby (from TN)  to our home and enjoyed a week with them just visiting and sharing.  It was soooo good to have fun, junk and shop and then just talk and talk and talk and LAUGH.  With the death of my Mr. AGPMan's father combined with the loss of his longtime job last July I think I sort of forgot how to do that for a little while.  When my beautiful sister left last Sunday, and our home returned to a quieter state of normal, we were finally able to breathe in all the happenings from the last few weeks...  This morning we woke up to bright, clear skies and a renewed hope that life indeed presses on.

So must we.

On Monday I finished making over a charming vintage cabinet I picked up at a local thrift.  I'm sick I didn't take a BEFORE PICTURE of it, but given all we've been through of late it's no wonder I forgot.  Originally the piece had a tacky Formica top and lots of scalloped trim across the top of the cabinet.  They both had to go and I love how the cabinet (or cupboard) looks with the natural wood top (just stained 2" x 4" 's) and plain wood trim!  Kudos to my talented hubster!  He's the man!

The second photo shows a sweet little desk and chair also recently transformed.  Aside from the little Disney stickers that were stuck all over the original yellow paint (above) the two pieces were in awesome condition.  I changed out the cheap faux brass knobs and handles and replaced them with vintage brass pulls with their original patina left in place.  You can't tell from the photos, but the desk and chair are gently distressed and it really looks amazing!  Simple and uncomplicated.

Love that!

I'm just now getting back to working on new product for my AGP Website and I hope to have some fresh things soon...  The needed rest has been good and I just now have the energy to work...

Incredibly, this year I have started my sixth year of blogging!!!  I can't believe it.  Seems like it was just yesterday I first popped in to say HELLO for the first time.

It's been quite a ride.

Looking forward to sharing more thoughts, ideas and pictures with you in the future.

Thanks for hanging in...

Love to you~
