~TURN THAT TRASH INTO TREASURE - Sweet Results From Garage Sale Finds~

SWEET TAG SALE TREASURES

Earlier this summer I posted about a exceptionally fabulous tag sale I stumbled upon here in Oklahoma City. I was a bit of a braggart...remember? I went on and on about how I snagged the PREMIER ISSUE of VICTORIA Magazine for only fifty cents along with a bunch of other incredible vintage finds... I snapped a picture of my haul that day so you could see all my new-found pretties!

PERFECT FOR THE COTTAGE LOVIN' HOME

Over the course of June and July I managed to give some of those charming old finds a facelift. I painted up the neat wooden paddle, oil can and the 2die4 vintage powder box lid. I also found a place of honor in my own home for the pink rose hat, vintage Lefton hands and of course, the Magazine (sometimes I have a problem with sharing!!). Still on my list for a makeover was the sweet coffee pot and the vintage wooden purse basket...

NEWLY RESTYLED WITH SHABBY PINK ROSES

I finally finished painting and lining the basket a few days ago and was waiting to photograph it for eBay (listed today) when my granddaughter, Miss K, asked me if she could use it for a SPARE Lunch Box...

WHAT?

I'm tellin' you that kid comes up with the most hysterical things to say...

NOT SO PRACTICAL FOR HOLDING A SANDWICH

Anyway~ the more I thought about it the more I concluded that just MAYBE being a LUNCH BOX was what the basket was originally designed for...or, maybe it was just MEANT to be an UGLY purse...Not sure. I only know for certain that I would NEVER have carried it...

I think it is best served being used as JUST A BASKET!!! I can see it now... 'sitting pretty' on some dainty little shelf! How about you?

Blessings as you await with passion the arrival of fabulous Fall sales and Autumn shopping...Rebecca

Don't kids say the funniest things, especially our grandkids?! My son was working on a project with Love Bunny when he was a little tyke and said "Dad, isn't it fun to screw?" They were assembling something. And my hubs had to run in and tell me. Ooooh, the innocence of children, honey! We got a good laugh but hubs just said "sure is"! And hubs is not a "raunchy" man at all but he found humor in that remark.

Beautiful, but a "spare" lunch box?!?! Ooooh, chick, she's gonna be a comedian for sure.

xoxo,
Connie

To: Connie...

The comment made by your son when he was little jolted me back a few years...back to when my son was not quite 3. His Daddy, my Mr. AGPMan, has ALWAYS had tools around the house..things here and there...Screwdrivers, flashlights, nails, etc.

When I was about 7 months PREGO with my daughter I attempted to sit in an aging fold-up chair (it was round-backed and small..from an old church) when the thing collapsed beneath me (not so funny).

My hubby ran to my aid and was near freak-out stage when he saw the chair had fallen apart. A closer look showed almost all the screws had been removed and a screwdriver laying just beside the wreckage.

After asking me if I KNEW what had happened he looked towards our son for answers. Our little boy just stood there with the sweetest look on his face and said this:

"Daddy! I LOVE SCREWING!"

Enough said.

xoRebecca PS: That little boy is NOW Miss K's Daddy. This is where her WIT from (and her mouth). :)

Great re-do Rebecca! I don't know, maybe Miss K is right and it could be a lunchbox. Maybe you could pack a picnic lunch for her one day in it. Just be careful to wrap everything VERY carefully!

G'aftnoon, Rebecca ~ I am busting up hysterically over your son's comment ... that is adorable. Can't top that one ever!! Connie's son's is a 2nd rummer-up. These wee ones just make your hearts melt, when they come off the cuff like this. Such pure innocence ... every 6 yr. old girl needs a posh 'lunch box'. Chuckle!

Hugs of love, TTFN ~ Marydon

I can only once again say ... Rebecca, you could take dirt & turn it into sheer elegance!! Be still my heart!!

Little Miss K is going to follow in your footsteps.

Hi Rebecca,

Your flowers are gorgeous! But I have to laugh about your grand daughter...I'm with her on the extra lunch box! What a darling idea she had!

OK, so you say you bought the premier issue of Victoria. Was that the 1988 issue or under the new ownership? I have the 88 issue with the wisteria and I always find myself going back to it for inspiration. I love that magazine!!

Have a wonderful Friday.

xoxo Cori

Oh I'm horrified...LOL! I thought I owned all but two of the originals and now I find out I'm missing three. What do I do know ;-)? I used to have the tradition of pulling out all my past issues for that month and I think I'll start it up again. Maybe I'll find I'm missing more ;O!

Hello Rebecca, I adore your beautiful "lunch box" of roses, it is so lovely... and I am so envious of June winning your giveaway, lucky girl! I too have the Premier issue of the old Victoria magazine, I bought it at a local market the day it originally came out and have kept it all these years... I was lucky enough to find a second copy at an antique store, but I too don't want to share some things! I am keeping BOTH for myself... I also have every Victoria magazine that ever came out from the old days, and now the new ones...I must visit your Ebay shop...

Rebecca,
How Ilove your stories of little "Miss K". Isn't she the sweetest blessing ever?

I was wondering if you have plans to develop a tutorial on lining baskets, boxes and such? I would love to learn how you do those lovely, delicate linings.

Thank you for a site that is ever beautiful, ever inspiring.

blessings to you today.

For Marie:

Thanks for your sweet comments my friend!

About doing a Tutorial on Lining Baskets, Train Cases, etc...

I'm don't think this will be in the future my friend!! It's fairly detailed information and doing a lengthy "How To" is overwhelming even to think about! Just the Printing on Fabric Tutorial WORE ME OUT! :)

Thanks for your interest though!!!!

Hugs, Rebecca

I'd eat anything from that basket! Wow, such a gift, friend. I wouldn't even begin to know what to do with such a treasure or how to make something so beautiful as this. I celebrate this gift that God has obviously given to you--this being able to see beyond the "ordinary" to create an extraordinary piece of loveliness.

I do believe that we all carry such a capacity; it just "comes to light" in very different ways.

I can't cook, craft, or decorate to save my life. But when it comes to words, I find great pleasure in creating something from a blank piece of paper.

Thanks for your encouragement. God's blessings to you this Sabbath rest.

Hi, Rebecca....just wanted to tell you in the mid-50's these basket-purses were VERY popular!! I received about three for Graduation! Some were oval, some were square...
with some kind of design on top.Mine were all white...I loved them!
I have an old one now that I bought and use to hold soap on the bathtub...pretty!
I'm with you now...I don't know if I would use it for a purse!!
Your grand-daughter is precious! The thibgs she says make me laugh out loud!!
Big hugs..Francy

Your work is 2die4. I am following your blog now to go on your journey in life with you. I also have a 6 year old granddaughter that is very close to me. I love the stories and will read some to her. Not the screw ones. But you know what I mean. I have one of those baskets, and I think I am going to paint it and see if she wants to use it as a lunch box too. It won't have the pretty flowers but I can decoupgue it. Kath'
