~DRESSING UP FOR Trick or Treat - Sweet Memories In My Heart~

When my children were itty bitty I loved to dress them up for Trick or Treating. In our home witches and goblins weren't allowed...nor anything else that was SCARY, bloody or creepy. Sorry! Not for this girly girl! We kept the rules fairly simple regarding Halloween Costumes and in the end we have some wonderful, sweet memories that relate to them gathering up bags full of candy.

BATMAN BRANDON
CLOWN GIRL ADRIENNE

1987

In 1987 my son Brandon was Batman! Yes, "The Caped Crusader" himself! The only problem was that he was BONE THIN (no muscles at age 5!) and he insisted the costume be made in the exact colors on the pattern's front! Black and turquoise to be exact! (Yep! That's what I thought!). When I look at these pictures now I just crack up! What was I thinking? Sweet little Adrie was a tiny Clown. Her tiny body was LOST in that outfit!

Over the years my children dressed up as many things! I'll spare you ALL the pictures and just show you a couple of my favs.

FIRST PRIZE WINNER
ADRIENNE as FRENCH'S MUSTARD
1988

Now...before you ask yourself "How did Rebecca come up with that little diddy?" Well...let me answer it really quick for you! The costume was once my dress. It was! It was a canary yellow dress with a gathered, very full, gored skirt. I wore it with a wide red belt and bright red earrings (say it isn't so...it was the 80's!). Anyway...I was always TRYING to come up with something special for my four year old and since the dress had lived past it's prime I decided to whack off the top and turn the base of the dress into French's Mustard Costume. I decided to enter Adrienne into a Costume Contest that was going on in OKCity at the time and she won 1st place and I got $100 bucks! :) Whooo Hooo!

MISS K in Auntie Adrie's Costume
2006

Three years ago I put the same costume on our Miss K! She was VERY SICK that year and was a real trooper for agreeing to get dressed up for her over zealous Nana!

BRANDON as ZORRO
ADRIENNE as MISS FLAPPER
1992

The year we bought our home, 1992, our son dressed up as Zorro and Adrienne was a Red Flapper. You can't see this in the picture but Bran had a huge black cape and he looked dashing with his 'lil mustache! Adrienne looks slightly intoxicated in this picture...but trust me, she wasn't! She was 8! (PS: Don't faint...but that carpet and couch use to be in my den!!!!).

Thanks for taking a peek into our Halloween Memories. Later this week I'll share some pics of Miss K over the years...truly darling!

Want to know the upside of not having little kids in the home anymore?

Every Halloween I'd dig for the good stuff (Reese's, Snickers, Kit Kat, etc.) and then systematically pack on the pounds eating it until it was gone. Now I make sure we give out ALL the candy we have...that way I'm not tempted in INDULGE!

Blessings to you as you await the KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK and the RING RING RING...Rebecca

Have 4 words to say here...YOU GO ALL OUT.... have to admit here as a Kiwi living in Australia it has only been the last 10 years or so that Halloween has hit my home, thanks to my Ryno who started it all off with going out with his mates to collect lollies (candy) but it has been my youngest *Dylan* who has really got us into it. It seems strange *downunder* where we are so thankful that spring has arrived that Halloween is all about pumpkins & everything to do with Autumn (fall). I have been good this year & have the *eyeball* lollies, am still on the lookout for the cobwebs to put on my *treasured* front veranda, even looking for spiders which are my biggest fear, but will do it none the less. Oh & boy can I relate to that dress conversion, what were we thinking with the clothes we wore in the eighties, good grief, they were a complete horror. Have just realised, we do not need to turn our old clothes from back then into any customs, that decade was 10 years of Halloween....

Have a great night my Sweet...

Oh I need to email you regards your Cookie Cards on Etsy, do you post to little ol' me in Australia??? please...

Those walks down Memory Lane are
so wonderful, aren't they? The years do fly by, and you are so lucky to have such sweet reminders in these photos.
Your costumes for the kids are so cute....your daughter looked so much like YOU in the Flapper costume, though she was only 8 years
old...you could see she would grow up to look just like you!! (At first I thought it WAS you!!)
Loved the one of Miss Kayla in the French's costume, too!! Didn't we put a LOT of fabric in those old 80's skirts!!!!
Have a happy day..Hugs, Francy

They look so cute. We still have green carpet. I know I need to rip it up. But I don't know whats underneath.
The only memory of what I dressed up like for Halloween when I was little was the devil. The reason I remember is because I went trick or treating with our pasters childern and one was an angel . I felt so bad. My mom got the costume. And it is all we had. I can't forget that night. It still bugs me. LOL! I still have all my sons costumes. I can't get rid to them. They are so cute.

Hi Rebecca!
How are you this week! Hope you are all feeling better and creating up a storm! Saw some of your beauties, simply amazing talent sweets!

Yep, I was the same as far as, gory, witches etc. So my sweet Michaela always came up with cute ideas. You made me think about how I need to dig up my Halloween pictures. She has 6 neighborhood kids that she grew up with and they would all get together for a group picture before they all left in a group. Oh the sweet memories!

Thanks for letting me remienice!

Hi Rebecca!
I just read the comment you left over at Nancy’s blog! I too am doing WW. That’s great that you’re doing so well with the program. It really is a wonderful plan as long as you stick to the guidelines and work it. I usually have a hard time when the holidays hit but I refuse to put on a ton of weight this year….don’t want to cancel out all my hard work. If you would like to join in on our little weight loss challenge we would love to have ya. We have a few ladies that participate who are also on WW.
The pictures of your kiddos are too cute. I love the French’s costumes. She was super cute with her little ringlets :0)

Oh I wish you would send some of your discipline over my way! Hopefully you will inspire me!

This is our 2nd week and the challenge runs until Nov 12th. If we have enough people that stick with it and enjoy it I’m going to start another one after we finish this one. Not really a place to sing up. I post a few questions for you to blog about on Mondays, you answer questions and talk about anything else you would like to add in on your blog, come back here and link up with Mr. Linky. If you look through my post you will be able to find the origional blog I posted about why I started this and what it is’s all about. It’s only been 2 weeks so you shouldn’t have to flip back too far.
I'm happy that you decided to join in with us!

These were so much fun to look at. The homemade costumes are always so creative, my Mom used to make all of ours too.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Amy's funeral. It gave all of us that couldn't be there a small glimpse.

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Rebecca, Your kids were just so cute! The only costume and Halloween I remember was when I was about 8 or 9 my parents insisted that I go as the Frito Bandito, because they had a sombrero and blanket. Anyway, My mother painted on a black moustache. aaarrgghh. Horrible. I never forgave them. It was funny and cute, but gee, I just wanted to be a princess. bummer.
Last week after my post on the garage I saw that you had asked about shipping. I'm sorry, I wasn't ingoring you. I tried to leave a comment one evening and just then blogger went "out" and was down all night. Anyway... It's hard to find boxes and shipping is a nightmare. I'm kindof being a homebody while I wait for my meds to get adjusted. Sorry I didn't get back with you before now. OK. I'll close this "letter" ha ha.
Hugs, Debra

I can't wait for al the little costumes to come to my door this year. I truly love seeing each and every child stop by. It is one night of the year I wouldn't miss.
You children looked so darling in their costumes Rebecca. Hey what's up with that hunter green carpet and plaid couch...that's what I call scary! LOL. Really, you should see some of the stuff I used to live with...what was I thinking?
Do you think we'll ever look back at our homes now and go 'what was I thinking'?! Probably!
Hugs,
June

Hi Rebecca!
I so love the memory lane and the costumes. The kids were so wonderful weren't they? When we made the costumes instead of rushing out and buying them. We actually put thought and time into the costumes. What happened to those days, really?

I love the French's mustard best of all. So original and so cute. I can see how it won. It was just precious. Thanks for sharing sweetie.

Country hugs and love. Sherry
P.S. Love the couch and the carpet. Certainly not you today. I love you sweetie. Hugs, Sherry

Hi Rebecca,
how pretty your costumes were. Adrienne in her French's Mustard is my favorite . once I made a carrot costume and a jam jar one. The jam jar was such a pain in the neck to put together that I promised myself to never do it again. And so it was. Halloween is new in Italy so our kids do not reall go our trick or treating, but they do wear costumes at parties. In fact my daughter will be going to a party on Saturday and I've got to make up sthg. wish me luck I'm not so talented at seweing as you are!!

Blessings
