~FINDING THE PERFECT SHABBY COTTAGE VINTAGE BED~

 ~GORGEOUS VINTAGE BED~

I heard on the Antique Roadshow a couple of days ago that a true ANTIQUE is something over 100 years old!  For some reason I thought it was anything over 50.  I guess that means this gorgeous bed only qualifies as VINTAGE!
~LOVE THE PEDIMENT~

You may remember I've been looking for a bed for one of my upstairs bedrooms.  I first planned on getting just a twin, but ONE DAY my home will be filled with more grandchildren and so I decided to hunt for a full bed instead!  While out estate sale shopping with my friend Judy last week we eyed this fabulous 1930's bed and I decided to bring her home with me.  She will be my FALL MAKEOVER PROJECT and I'm excited about her transformation!

I know all you purist antique people are going to FAINT at the thought of me painting it...but I'm going to!

Just giving you fair warning here! :)
~LOVE THIS NEW BED~

This morning I did some looking on the computer and I found the sweet new bed above.  I like it and I'm hoping my new OLD BED will look as lovely once everything is set!  Not looking forward to painting all those spindles, but I'm sure I'll get through it!

Found this one at FOREVER PINK COTTAGE CHIC and just loved it!  You've got to check out their website.  If you love painted furniture you are going to LOVE what you see here.  I'm swooning already!

Hope your day is awesome!  I'm back in my workshop once again working on new product!  It's also time to clean up my working space after some busy, busy days!  Things are getting a bit out of hand!

Love to you...

I am prepared for the painting....just remember this...when you come to visit me...you have to leave your furniture paint brush at home. Your decorator one is welome to come!!
I really don't have much vintage and antique pieces of furniture, but I am ONE OF THOSE who doesn't paint them.
I like your things though.
See I need a bigger house. With wings...the south wing could be traditional, the west wing mid century modern, the east wing whatever you call what I have, and the north wing shabby chic...see, I have plans!!!

I think it's going to look fabulous Rebecca! You should do what makes you happy with your furniture......and yes, when the grandchildren start coming and spending the night with you, then they all have to have a place to sleep. I like to make nice memories for my grandchildren when they stay over!~Hugs, Patti

That is a lovely vintage bed, and I can just picture how it will look once you have finished painting it and probably adding some roses to the headboard!! I know some people do nearly faint at the thought of painting pretty wood furniture, but I am not one of those!!
My hubby is.....a few years ago I was trying to purchase a mantle to put on a wall in our bedroom...no fireplace existed, so first of all he asked me WHY I wanted to put a mantle there with no fireplace...I explained "to decorate"...and he said "OH!! To decorate".....??????
The mantle I wanted was a gorgeous mahogony one with a mirror across the shelf....the man selling it nearly swallowed his tongue when I said I was painting it....he was so disturbed, I bought another cheaper mantle from him and painted IT white. Now my hubby thinks it was a great idea....takes decorating it all up for them to SEE what you saw in the "raw" stages!!
So..."you go, girlfriend"..anything
you touch wil turn out beautiful...
let us see the final results, please!!
Have a happy "hunp day"...you know who will be home tomorrow!!!
Love, Francy

That is the PERFECT vintage bed you discovered!! It's going to look wonderful once you've done your "magic" to it :) My hubby once brought home this really nice antique/vintage table, but quickly sold it to someone before I could "get my hands on it", lol...yes, I was picturing it all painted cottage white :) Now he only finds things that he doesn't mind being painted, LOL :) Looking forward to seeing pics of the bed when it's all done and put in place!

Warmest hugs, Brenda

I see that you are still working away there, Miss Rebecca! I love that bed and can't wait to see it painted. I have a set of antique Jenny Lind spool beds that belonged to my hubby's grandfather and I have been SO tempted to paint them white over the years. They are a blackened walnut (I think) and they are lovely. Hubby has begged me NOT to paint them but when I went to the website you highlighted there is a set just like my own painted PINK! OH MY! Do you think he would notice if I painted them PINK? He just asked me not to paint them WHITE...He never said a word about PINK!;>) xo Diana

Rebecca,
This bed is awesome and it's going to be so beautiful after you paint it. I can't wait to see it! It's going to be perfect for your grandchildren when they come to stay with you. :)

I've tried several times to email you with my address but when I hit send, it asks me things that I don't know about how my email is sent, etc. I don't understand all of that computer stuff so I'll just put it on here.

It will be fabulous! Most everything I have is vintage, except my piano. It is more than 100 years old! Can't wait to see it--did you really say fall project? I'd love to come over to be your encourager (better word choice than nag, don't you think?) for any of your projects. I'd work for cheap, too!♥♫

Lovely bed! I used to be one that would faint at the thought of taking a paint brush to antiques or almost antiques. Now, I realize that if a little paint means they will be loved a little longer, it is perfectly acceptable! They just do not make furniture with those same lines and silhouettes, no matter how hard they try. A little paint sometimes makes those lines even more visible and beautiful! Can't wait to see your beautiful results!

EllenaElizabeth said...

Yes that is definitely correct, objects have to be over 100 years old to be a true antique. I have heard and read that quite a few times from different sources. Looking forward to seeing the finished bed.

That bed is fantastic! I love it the way it is. But painting it will make it your own. I am not an antique purist and know that somethings just need a little tender loving care. I think it would stick out like a sore thumb being so dark. The best part is that it is going to someone that will love it!

Judy Miller said...

Rebecca, The bed is lovely as is but I would paint it too. Hubby nearly passes out when I find a piece then go for the paint brush, he's gotten use to it and now likes it. You can take missmatched pieces and make everything go together with just paint. I'm surprised you don't have an airless spray painter by now for those big jobs and things like spindles. Can't wait to see the transformation. When you do something wonderful like that I always call Hubby in to see what you do and he's amazed so he too is getting on the band wagon with paint. Have a Blessed Day, Judy

I've known for some time that an antique was something over a 100 years old. So..no antiques for me. :) Well..I do have a cup and saucer from my Grandmother..it is from the 1800's. But that's about it I think.
No matter..I never have thought age was important...that is until I got a HUGE dose of it! Now..it matters.
:):)

Mona

Oh..by the way..I keep trying to find where your items are that are for sale. Just on Etsy and Ebay now? *sigh* Will check again.
